Toshiba Storage Device Division (SDD) has announced its first slim HD DVD-RW drive for mobile PCs. It can write to an amazing amount of media types.
It is called SD-L912A

Yes, spec-wise and all its very nice, but its not going to be useful if it costs more than a few hundred dollars.

very slow DVD+/-r write speeds, just like the HD drive in my HP
if mine costs $400 this would be maybe 6 or 800 -

Thanks for sharing this information. I can't see me buying Blu-ray or HD DVD technology until a) the prices come down and b) until there is a clear advantage to buying one over the other (as in, one has a lot more market share than the other).

By the time i get one the drives will be blue ray AND hd dvd rw. After theyve juiced the market for early adopters it should be like 200$ max.
