NEW YORK -- A 20-year-old FedEx deliveryman is accused of stealing $10,000 worth of packages during the holidays on Long Island.

Nassau County police arrested Jin Hui Wu, of Hicksville, on Friday at a FedEx facility in Bethpage in connection with the theft of nine packages.

After an internal audit by FedEx personnel of non-delivered packages, it was discovered that the defendant re-routed at least nine customer packages to his home address in Hicksville, according to police.

Police said this occurred between Nov. 26 and Dec. 31. The packages all contained laptop computers valued at about $10,000.

Wu has been charged with grand larceny and fraud.

Only four of the laptop computers have been recovered. The investigation is ongoing.

And do NOT GO international with these guys either... nothing makes it here to Eastern Europe without a major problem- FedEx does NOT deliver and the USA policies don't apply in foreign countries, so they can NOT stop local people from getting into and pilfering their deliveries (unless they pull the truck over, which they do).

Trust me, I'm in Eastern Europe and the ONLY WAY to get stuff here or back to the USA is via the "one-arm-carry-on" proceedure where I do it personally. Or if you want to pa off a ton of people and still have NO guarantees, and no way to hold FedEx responsible. I just lost over $2K usa with these bastargggs.

    Grrrr.
One employee can really do some damage to an international firm. But it takes a whole company of not listening to customer complaints and solving them prompty to keep it a problem- capice?

If this guy took my laptop I'd be soo pissed.
    what a jerk.
Oh and I'm sure the other ones have new owners, courtesy of his 100% reseller rating on ebay, eh wot?

An instance of a corrupt employee is hardly an indictment of an entire company or industry.

Who said it was an indictment? First it was intended as levity given the seriousness of the people on this board toward notebooks and consumer electronics in general. Second, if you want to take it further to the realm of consumer awareness, it portends to a weakness in FedEx's internal controls. Be it an abberation or just a reported incident among possibly more unreported insidents, it was a worthy post. If it made the news it is noteworthy. I suppose the almight advertising dollar and a phone call from FedEx turned journalism on its face?

Regardless, it is FedEx's responsibility to fix. They hired him, they employed him, they failed to keep their system secure. So yeah, this does speak a little negatively about FedEx.

I agree it is a worthy post. And it appears that FedEx internal controls are what caught this. Not trying to defend FedEx, but some of the responses did seem to be a bit over the top.

You give Eastern Europe a bad name...I don't know about the country you live in, but in the EU if you ship with UPS,DHL or co they arrive in one piece where they should when they should. The local postal service is another thing, but you should not use them for package shipping for international shipments.
