Why do companies paint laptops matte but still make the screen bezel glossy? My Vaio F is the same way--matte finish everywhere but the screen bezel. Is there some rhyme or reason to this?

I suppose the glossy screen bezel looks better than a matte bezel if you get the glossy screen option.

Still, I imagine that Clevo's core customers (and the end users) are more attracted to quality matte (anti-glare) screens ... and therefor would appreciate a matte screen bezel.

I have no Clevo sales figures to back that up so it's possible that most Clevo customers and end users LOVE glossy, reflective screens.

For turning off the fans and melting your Extreme Edition processor and high-end graphics card. ;)

In all seriousness, some notebooks have one-touch underclocking/overclocking so you can reduce the noise coming from the fan/fans or turn up the speed for a slight performance boost.

From these forums, at least, it sounds like most Clevo owners buy matte screens. And my Vaio F is only available with a matte screen, yet still has a glossy bezel.

The Samsung Series 7 Gamer has a "library mode" on its rotary dial. Nerfs performance but makes it quiet for...well...the library. And similar situations, like classrooms, business meetings, etc. Because even people who buy dedicated gaming laptops don't ONLY game on them, and having a performance-nerfed-yet-silent mode is great for when you're using it for non-gaming purposes.

Mine is pretty quiet even with a 580M GTX.
Well that is when not gaming, in everyday casual use sure you can hear the fans but it still is relatively quiet.
I don't have an extreme CPU so maybe that helps.

yup, my dedicated gaming laptop which I rarely use for gaming nowadays and usually brought on meetings is pretty quiet, however it has a jet engine mode that scares the crap out of people lol.

thanks for the explanation, wish my old non gaming lenovo w500 had that library mode. it was pretty noisy when the fans kicked in.

    Hey guys,

I was wondering, with this setup:
Intel Core i7-2860QM Processor (8MB Cache, 2.50 GHz)
    8GB DDR3 1600MHZ
    Intel 520 Series SATA 3 240GB SSD (550 MB/s / 520 MB/s)
nVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M GPU with 2GB GDDR5 Video Memory
15.6 Full High Definition (1920 x 1080) Matte 95 Colour Gamut Super Clear LED
Blu-ray Writer RW / DVD-R/RW DL Combo Optical Drive
    Intel Ultimate-N 6300

How long will the battery last (with just web browsing), and how heavy will it be?

I'd say about 1.5-2 hours on power saver mode.
the np8150 I think is about 7 lbs, and the power brick is about 2lbs.

mmm...7 pounds would be like 3.1kg? That's a bit to the heavy side but still alright considering the monster it holds.

2 hours battery life on power saving is a bit sad.

yup these laptops were never designed to be used more than 5 feet away from a power plug lol.

hopefully we'll get better options when the refresh hits next month :D

I own a Racer and I can tell you the performance is awesome. The Racer is faster in every task thrown at it, compared to a Alienware M18X with the same grahics card. Not by a lot, but still quicker. Its so very easy to clean and service as well. Eurocom customer service is great too.. Never had a warranty issue, but spoke with them a few times about other things related to the laptop.

I currently own an Envy 15 that I just purchased yesterday and the idling fan noise is driving me nuts. Is the P150HM quieter with regular use?

On regular use it should not be noticeable; however if you do get a hard drive caddy instead of a disc drive there can be a rattle on occasion (but I might just be unlucky). Also games / some video will DEFINITELY have quite a bit of fan noise (just like the review said), but for what it's outputting - it's well worth it. As for it compared to an Envy? I believe it would have less idle noise, but more noise when stressed...if that helps :)

That's exactly what I wanted to know! I think I just might be over sensitive as I had a small low powered Acer laptop that died on me, possibly due to heat. =\ Guess the trade off is worth it. =P

My thoughts to those concerned with heat and noise:

    Get an Asus G series.

Quietest laptop I own outside of the zenbook when not gaming, and still quieter than the POS xps studio is performing normal operations. Little less power than euro, the bios isn't as robust (although I would submit it's a better all around bios).

In exchange you get better build quality, same monitors, better warranty and better hinges (my biggest pet peeve with sagers). If you're concerned primarily with beastmode performance at all time, go sager/clevo/eurocom/rebrand9999, provided you can self-support.

I guess it's a disclaimer that one of the two lappies I'm on right now is a sager 150hm, and I absolutely love it. It's like having to choose between chocolate or cheesecake; you'll be happy either way, but the Asus is admittedly better in the noise dept.

I would have to agree with you in terms of noise, but styling of the Asus is just too outlandish for my simplistic tastes.

I've got an older version of the Racer (almost a year old now) and it has been a great machine. It's not nearly as tricked out as this review unit was - I have the i7 2720 CPU and a 6970 GPU. I also opted not to upgrade the memory - at the time I thought the upgrades were a bit on the expensive side - not sure if that has changed or not.

As others have noted though if you want a quiet machine the Racer may not be right for you. It will handle any game you can throw at it - but the fans do run loud - which is what you would expect from a gaming machine. I game with headphones so it's not a big deal to me, but others might find it distracting.
