Any word on pricing? Think I might get a 14" T61 with integrated graphics. Oh and what's with the X3100? Is it a special version of the X3000 or something? Maybe one with built-in video memory?

I think its the mobile version of X3000, or maybe its a more performance oriented version. Not entirely sure.

I think that the NVS140 will be based on the Go8400. I wonder if one can reflash it to be a Go8400 like some people did with the older NVS cards. Otherwise, I hope that they offer a non-workstation graphics option...

I would expect pricing to be about the same as the current lineup, with the 14" wide going for a bit cheaper than the 14" standard ratio.

Calling the ThinkPad T series ugly is like saying the Porsche 911 is ugly, both of which are misguided and incorrect statements. There is nothing wrong with timeless classics.

    X3100 is a X3000 at 400Mhz core.

The FireGL 5250 I believe is the X1700/X1800 except in a workstation format

That's correct, the ATI FireGL V5200 is based on the Radeon X1700.

Meh. 14" widescreen doesn't do it for me.. I find vertical space more useful than horizontal (except for watching DVDs). So.. hopefully they come out with a 14" standard or 15.4" WS soon..

Of course it won't, the V5250 is currently on the T60p.

My guess is that'd we'd see more powerful graphics cards on the T61 through its -p variant.

    Unbelievable pricing for students too.

$1550 for my spec w/ a 14.1 WXGA+, 2 GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM, Quadro graphics, 120 GB 5400 RPM HDD, 1 GB NAND card, DVD burner, 6 Cell, and three year depot warranty.

    The perfect laptop. Period.

    Ewhac,

Trade it for the T61. I used a T60 at work for a year and loved it, so I bought into a Z61t. The quality is not the same. The keys feel cheaper, and the spacebar "misses" sometimes. Also, the Z (1.6ghz, Intel 950) runs HOTTER than the T60, even though my T60 had an X1400 and a 2,0gz.

The T61 has all the options I wanted in the z61t that weren't available in T-series at the time: 14.1 WXGA+, integrated flash card, integrated camera. If I could do it again, I'd get a T series.

I dual boot XP (documents and design) and Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (engineering). Don't get me wrong, the Z series is nice. The T series is just better.

    BTW:

Use offer ID number : 536686

This makes the base price $1010. You can get a fully stocked T61 for roughly $1300.

I'm not sure the T61 is ready for prime time, Linux-wise. While the NVidia graphics would doubtless work flawlessly, I suspect I'd have to wait a while before the ipw4965(?) WiFi card got even basic support. The T61 is also built on an entirely new foundation (Santa Rosa). The bleeding edge has never been friendly to Linux users...

Odd. According to the bill of materials that shows up when I punch in my serial number, the "good" (NMB) keyboard shows up as the FRU, and I've had only one minor quibble with it so far (the FN key goes 'thunk' -- no other way to describe it).

The only major (if it can be called that) disappointment I have with the Z61t is the display quality is middling. This is, of course, a grievously unfair comparison, given that I'm coming off a Sony XBRITE display, but when even garden variety Toshibas and HPs are sporting glossy high-contrast displays, the Z61t (Samsung panel?) looks muddy by comparison.

I suspect the characteristics you cite would be noticeable to me only after having used a T60 for a long time. So far, the only thing that would make me want to trade up to the T61 is if someone told me the T61 PC speaker beep volume could be turned down independent of all the other audio sources ( damn, that thing is jarringly loud).

I did notice ACPI reporting the CPU temperature creeping up to 79 while I was recompiling the kernel last night, which took me aback somewhat. I took the Intel Core 2 Duo at 2GHz (T7200).

Where are you seeing an integrated camera option on the T61?

I'm not an IBM shareholder. There are stories afoot that misrepresenting shareholder-hood can get your warranty cancelled.

    FYI:

BEWARE if you think you're getting Vista 64bit installed on your T61!

Last week I ordered a T61, full gambit of options, (T7700, Windows Vista Ultimate, WWAN, etc.) $3000+

After ordering I reviewed the email confirmation and saw Vista 32bit being installed on the T7700 64bit processor. After talking with the salesrep I was told Lenovo only installs 32bit Vista as this is the licensing agreement with Microsoft and the DVD's will not be shipped with the system since one can create refresh disks from the hard-drive (not for 64bit since 32bit is installed).

I have no use for another 32bit OS especially on a 64bit processor! After confirming this with another salesrep I immediately cancelled my order. I waited 9 months for the T61 to come out and all the reviews state Vista 64bit is on the T61 but not according to the salesreps and my own order confirmation - SO BEWARE if you are expecting the 64bit Vista version is being installed on your T61!!
