Just spotted this in the news. Dell found guilty of false advertising, deceptive business practices and abusive debt collection practices.
"... Dell deprived customers of technical support that they bought or were eligible for under warranty in several ways, including by requiring people to wait for very long times on the phone, repeatedly transferring their calls and frequently disconnecting their calls."

Whole bunch of other nasty stuff in there too. Wow. I'd read a lot of people were happy with Dell support but this seems to indicate otherwise.

In related(?) news, Dell shares jump after solid 1Q results:

Coincidence ? Perhaps fraud really does pay off ? -
It`s the way the market goes.

Reading some other articles, it seems DELL's business/corporate support is top notch, but it's their consumer-level support which has most of the problems. Of course this could also vary from country to country.
Pretty serious though for them to be in court about it. -
Dell virtually is non-existant in my country, but I have heard positive opinions on the US one though. Too bad they are not too aggresive here, because their laptops are so cheap.

I am not surprised to read this at all.
Before I ordered a laptop with Dell through an agent I later cancelled that order and ordered through another agent. I instructed Dell never to re-order the laptop that I cancelled and they gave me their word that they would never order it again without my say so. I went on holiday and the laptop that I booked was in place and everything was ok with my order.
Little did I know that the persons agent who I cancelled my order with called my dad when I was on holiday and booked another laptop through my dad without my consent. My dad didn’t know a thing about it or what was going on. They then went onto to charge card my card again when I already had another laptop on order already.
This is very poor practice you should never put an order through without speaking to the card holder first.
I had the shock of my life when I arrived home to find that I had 2 laptops on order and that both monies had been debited from my bank.
Seeing as I didn’t put enough money into the bank account that they used to fund the second order they put into a mess with my bank.
I later cancelled the order that they booked through my dad but the agent who booked my laptop through my dad went onto cancel my order that I already had in place for 1 month just to have it booked again through them.
I gave them 48 hours to respond to me about what they were going to do about returning my funds to me that they took without my consent. Thankfully things got sorted out in the end.
They will resort to shoddy practices and my story is far from being an isolated case. People even go through worse stuff with Dell.
Some agents are just so desperate for a sale. I have dealt with professional agents and some very unprofessional ones to say the least. They do give good discounts though so that is one good thing to say about them. -
I guess Dell's service is really hit or miss. As a previous poster said, however, their XPS support is amazing and I have had the opportunity to deal with XPS support in at least 8 countries.

It would be great if all Customer Based Support went back/tried the "Let me see what I can do for you" attitude, and actually smiled when talking on the phone or chatting thru the computer (it actually shows/improves attitude). -
