One thing that I think you might've over looked...did you see the RAM on the reccommended specs? They've got 4 friggin' gigs in that thing, and you know how Dell likes to jack up the price on RAM.

Right now I'm looking at the following build:

    *Win XP Pro
    *4-year extended warranty
    *2.0GHz Core Duo (T2500)
    *12.1" WXGA screen w/ built-in webcam
*512MB RAM (256x2, 'cause non-Dell RAM is almost always cheaper)
    *100GB SATA HDD@7200RPM
    *Dual Layer DVD+/-RW drive
*9-cell battery (the larger of the 2 available)
    *Onboard Bluetooth
*Go 7400 card (but NOTE: this is actually a 64MB card that pulls up to 192MB from main system memory...it is NOT a dedicated 256MB card!)
    *4-year Complete Care (excluding theft)

Including shipping (3,500 yen) & taxes (5%), total cost comes to 228,180 yen, or US$2040.44/GBP1,089/1,589 Euros. Expensive? Yeah, especially considering that Dell normally doesn't offer coupons for the XPS series, but definitely not in the 600,000 yen ballpark unless you just like giving away money when you really don't have to.

thanks for the clear up. ~£1000 price mark is much more reasonable. How did you work out your price? Are they already selling?

Yup, they've been on sale on the Dell Japan website over here for a little less than 2 weeks, I'm guessing...which is how I configured that build and got a price. Then again, it also helps that a) I live here in Happy Land, b) I'm running Japanese Win XP, and c) I can read Japanese :)

Actually, it was released 7 days ago.

For U.S. consumers, we really can't depend on these translated international figures. Dell is always cheapest in the states.

The release of the Acer Ferrari 1000 makes this interesting.

What I think is best is to use this with a large, nice computer monitor (say the reasonably priced 20" Dell wide-screen) at home. That way you get the best of both worlds.

Japan is Happy Land in a lot of ways, not least technologically and probably above all gaming-wise. But IMO for foreigners it's fun for a couple of years max.--before you get sick of being, depending on your skin color, 1) a walking curiosity getting paid for being curious or 2) considered inferior because you're neither Japanese nor curious. ;)

Not sure if this concerns anyone, but I talked to a Dell rep in Hong Kong yesterday. She said the M1210 will be available mid-June for HKD 12000, which is about USD 1550. I assume this is for the basic config.

I'm also wondering if this one will have BlueTooth in the US. On the Japanese site Bluetooth is, if I'm not mistaken, a paid option.

The 12", 1.1-kg, 7300-equipped LG TX Express. Sexiest laptop I've seen in a while, but not available in the US of A.

Another webpage with more info on specs

    anon697,

Yup, you hit the nail on the head there, buddy. Welcome to my world everybody. ;) ...although I've made Hokkaido home for the last nearly 6 years, and my wife is from Sapporo, so I guess I can't complain too terribly much. *grin*

As far as Bluetooth, yup...it's an add-on here and'll run ya an extra 3,000 yen or so.
