If this comes to marker as rumored, that would be most excellent. Depending on the price this will give a nice option to the people who don't want to get creamed paying for the Sony SZ. I only wish they had a Latitude version with integrated Verizon or at least a PCMCIA slot. Man...it's been 3 years since I've owned a Dell, but they have some pretty compelling products coming out in the coming months.

Nice, wish it had a higher end vid card, but thats me. I hope it has at least 128 and optional 256mb video card.
Too bad the unit looks "cheap"

Cramming a Go7300/X1300 in there is a big enough feat, imo - there's (edit - thx jujube) very few other 12" notebooks with integrated graphics right now, and only one 13.3" that i know (Sony SZ) ... even most of the 14" notebooks have a 7300 or 7400; though there are some with Go7600/X1600 cards, now.

wow it looks hot. I noticed there's a significant bezel around the screen.. is there going to be a 13.3" model based on the same chassis?

I don't think dell does 13.3" models.......but maybe they'll start now, just like there hasn't really been a 12" model with dedicated graphics.

Goren, that would be HOT. Since I have owned both the 700m (12.1") and the 630m (14.1") a middle ground with a 13.3" would be a nice compromise, especially having the 630m beat on graphics and processor and other components already.

BUT knowing Dell, I doubt they'll offer this with a 13.3" screen option. Here is to hoping I am wrong. :)

Couldn't they make the borders around the screen thinner? The thick borders make the screen looks smaller than it is. Any comp to how well the battery life would be?

Isn't this an Asus W7 in an uglier format?

Ah, that's not quite true. W7 is 13".

So more like W5 in an uglier format but with a dedicated video card right?

Anybody have any idea or estimate of what this is going to cost? To me this seems like an almost perfect laptop. I'm currently looking at the HP dv1000t. If this thing is around 1200, maybe I'll just wait a bit. Hope Dell doesn't delay it.

Not that I'm a huge applehead, but the 12" iBook & powerbooks have had dedicated graphics for awhile now. I've always wondered why they could do it and not many other big names like Dell didn't until now. The M1210 is very enticing to say the least.

--Claps-- Alright Dell! I can only hope this will be a cheaper alternative to the SZ. It's looks alright for a Dell machine. No white bumpers of a pluss. The thick bezel around the scheme is just something Dell's have. My 6000 has a thick bezel compared to other 15.4s. The 1210 is deffinately a hot lappy and it has my eye.

I actually agree that a 13.3 inch screen config with a slightly faster graphics card might be just a little sweeter than this, but in talking with folks in the industry it seems that lcd manufacturers charge a lot more for 13.3 inch screens and they're actually more expensive to produce than 14.1 iinch screens for whatever reason. this explains to some degree why the sony vaio sz is so expensive. Anyway, I am excited by the prospect of this notebook and think it fills a niche.

    john here...

    rant

why would you want a dell? what a pos... why all the hype about the latest and greatest pos? sure dells are cheap, and come with the "best" customer service in the industry (yeah right) but the design that comes from a company that just aquired the ability to make alienware looking and functioning notebooks, is coming out with a notebook that people might think looks good if it were 1997. this thing is hideous. sorry, i just expected more from a company that has all this money to throw around. what am i saying, this is dell. nevermind... get a real laptop like a thinkpad, or an apple. even a sager or an hp. please please please dont buy a dell!

    /rant

why does looks even matter. truelly you are paying for the hardware and no one is better than dell with price/performance ratio. do you think its really worth an extra $1000 to get a "sexy" (psh) looking apple with the same hardware as a dell.

Wow this thing looks hot! Later when it is out for a while and the prices drop I might sell my XPS M140. My question is will it come with the 7300 or X1300 only? Or will that be an upgrade from an Intel 950GMA. I'm guessing it will start at around $1200?

I would have definitely considered buying one, but I'd like to have a bigger screen, than the 12" screen, I reckon it is a bit small for gaming for long periods of time and I'd like the resolution to be a bit better. Other than that, there is nothing to complain about. The specifications are stunning and so are the looks.

hehe not to be that guy but I think dell's suck to. As and IT guy for IUP University in PA Dells always break. Cheap price, as is the casing, and design. Granted i had an 8100 that lasted me 3 years and at the time it cost me 3 grand. Styling? **** right if i pay you two thousand bucks it better be pretty. My 8100 was ugly as it gets. I do find it to be a nice package, but 12-inch screen is a bit tiny eh? Great idea, just not practical for everyone esp those who work on the laptop alot.At least they are trying for a new niche, because like 5 outta 10 people got a dud...er dell : )

Wow; this thing looks pretty good, overall. The little knobbly bits round the screen (found on most Dells) are absolutely hideous and I hope the integrated webcam is optional; also the arrows on the touchpad are fugly. The black back of the screen is really quite svelte though.

But if this thing has a 4.5 hour + battery life with the extended battery and starts at under £800 (700 would be even better!) I'd seriously consider buying it. I'll have to compare it with the 640m...

With the dedicated video, the list price is going to be high, at least $1500. You have to remember there's a cost associated with miniaturization.

As to those saying don't buy a Dell, I guess you don't have much experience with all of their models. Sure, some are cheap, but that's the niche they're trying to fill. Many in their Latitude line are actually very nice and well built and the new XPS is pretty hot too. Look, I don't love all Dell does, but to rule out an entire brand is short-sighted.

$1500 is nearly the price of the W3j! In Taiwan you can get the W3j for as low as $1600. I seriously doubt $1500... It's like the 710m for $900. Add $100 for a core duo CPU add $100 for the better graphics card and add $100 for some extra features (webcam, card reader exc.). And you get $1200. The starting price might be higher but It will come down. Just like the XPS M140.. It started at $999. I have seen it for as low as $550 after coupons and it has better specs then when it started at $999. That’s like a 50% discount in like what 4-5 months?! So If It starts off high it will come down.

I agree...We need new laptops. I reckon if this dell is going to be around $1500, I think it's a bit overpriced. I reckon there are far more better deals on the laptop market. Sure it looks very sexy, but I don't think that's enough to justify the steep price tag, considering the small screen.

jasonck08, so might the XPS M1710 come down in price after this laptop ( M1210) is released? Becuase if it would, I might consider getting one towards the end of this year....

Yea... I'm sure in a couple of months the XPS M1710 will drop to around 2k. Looking back at the XPS m170, I could have purchased it for as low as $1200! When it first came out, it was over 2k. Again... a dramatic price drop!

Wow, i see alot of flaming of companies going on here, which isn't what this is for. Its for discussion, which can be positive or negative towards the laptop, but having one pc that is bad and then thinking all of their brand is bad, is just....wel stupid.

also, did u guys not hear it being said over and over that half of the notebooks are made by the same exact company?

Well.. Its about time Dell start making notebooks that one won't be embarrassed carrying around. I developed great disgust and hatred for Dell after seeing their pervious line of Inspirons and Latitudes (the gray - world’s cheapest plastic ones eg 600m). Now, they do seam to be getting their darn act together finally... I am sure it’s not to make good laptops and have happy customers, but stiff competition from other respectful pc makers that is causing this shift... anyway; things seam to be getting good for the Dell purchaser.

By the way, I thing this laptop is a massive improvement from their 700m model in terms of looks.
