Dell decided to put some food on the table of a few hungry people by auctioning off a couple of custom painted XPS M1710 laptops. The bidding on eBay for two World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade limited edition XPS M1710 laptops brought in about $12K that Dell is handing over to America's Second Harvest.

Trip Hoover of Texas and Daniel Marinow of Germany were the winning bidders for the two custom painted XPS M1710 gaming notebooks pictured below:

The custom-paint job on this M1710 was done by artist Mike Lavallee, it's an airbrush recreation of characters from the WoW Burning Crusade expansion pack that was recently released.

The combined bids of the winners for the M1710 laptops came to almost $12K, all of which was then handed over to America's Second Harvest, an organization that provides food to food banks and food-rescue organizations in the U.S. Vicki Escarra, CEO of America's Second Harvest, commented that -- We are very pleased to accept this generous donation from Dell. This fun and innovative charity auction will help us provide thousands of meals to Americans who are at risk of hunger.

I volunteer at a Food Bank which is partnered with Second Harvest. I hate to say it but this is more of a publicity act than anything, $12,000 is a pitiful amount to Second Harvest of America. A company like Dell could afford to do a lot more, and I'm disappointed that they and others haven't.

Well, yeah, I agree. On the other hand, if it helps create awareness for Second Harvest it's cool and $12k is better than $0 -- Dell isn't in great shape financially right now.

That's great you do volunteer work at a Food Bank, my hat goes off to you.

Thanks, that is true it does create some awareness for the Second Harvest, I'll try not to flame too bad I suppose they didn't have to do anything at all. The Foodbank here just expanded and the cost was $20,000,000+ so you can image how $12k benefits all of America with Foodbanks in every major city and then some, plus Second Harvest's other hunger programs such as "target hunger".

If anyone is interested in volunteering or checking out info for their local Foodbank here's a link:
