That's great, but now review the XPS 18!!!!!!!!!!! (I can't add enough commas)...

I've been on the verge of gettiing an Alienware 18x because I wanted something with screen real estate...and didn't want to just get a monitor. The XPS 18 is basically an AIO with a 5-hour battery...that's quite a feat! Can't wait for the Haswell version.

The touch keyboard is an interesting solution to the Yoga's keyboard-back, but I'm not sure I'd ever like typing on one for now. Still, I really like seeing all these OEMs trying new form factor combinations, instead of all making laptops that are 99% the same except for aesthetic design and the exact equipment combinations.

While the XPS 18 is very cool, it ain't a notebook by any meaning of the word. Also, those aren't commas ;)

LOL @ Commas. I don't know how anyone can cross shop a gaming laptop like the M18x against an AIO tablet.

Either way, the XPS 11 looks great, but if typing is anything like typing on my surface touch cover... THIS WILL BE TERRIBLE. I can't stand my touch cover for serious work. I wonder if the price will be higher than the xps12.

Screen real estate refers to the display resolution; you get the same real estate on a 1080p 11" laptop as you do on a 1080p 18" laptop. Maybe you mean that you want high resolution at medium to low PPI?

We'll be reviewing the XPS 18 on our desktop site. Hopefully soon.

Screen real estate refers to physical size of the screen in my book. I refer to my Vaio F2 (16.4" 1080p) as having a LOT more screen real estate than an Galaxy S4. Kind of like how a three bedroom house on two acres is a lot more "real estate" than a three-bedroom condo, even though they both have three bedrooms...

Yes yes, not commas. I don't see how it's not a notebook, it's just lacking a keyboard. Same hardware.

All I want the M18x for is the large screen, for movie watching in bed/couch/etc. This delivers the same thing, so I don't see how you could not compare them, based on my needs...

Well usable screen real estate then. The XPS 11 may have 1080p, but you can't zoom out as far on a spreadsheet as you can on a 1080p 18"...at least not with my eyesight...

Yay! And then the monsterous (bad)Ideacentre Horizon?

Yes, that's how I feel...it has to be usable to actually constitute higher real estate.

We have a first look of the Horizon up right now: Lenovo's IdeaCentre Horizon First Look Review

It's actually not a bad idea - it has a ton of potential. I don't think Lenovo successfully executed on that potential, though, at least not yet.

Every time someone uses the silly Apple trademark "Retina" to refer to HD-or-better resolution on a non-Apple phone or better-than-FHD resolution on a non-Apple laptop, a lemur gets eaten in the jungle.

This one's next, and he knows it.

In all seriousness, I think anything more than 1080p on a 10-13" screen is kinda silly (and I feel the same way about anything over HD on a smartphone). I've NEVER looked at my Duo 11 and said "gosh, the pixels are just too darned big." Never. At some point, higher PPI just becomes a bragging point, like whether your car's top speed is 120 mph or 130 mph in a country with 65-75 mph speed limits. And it's a bragging point with serious negatives (poor scaling on legacy software, framerate drops, etc). I'm really not sold on the idea that exceeding 1080p on a screen smaller than 15" is a good idea.

BTW, that pic you posted is actually one of an AyeAye. Just sayin' as an avid naturalist. :D

Though in terms of a higher resolution on a small screen, I wouldn't think of buying a device with with higher-than-1080p resolution on any mobile device right now until Microsoft fixes scaling in desktop mode on Windows 8. I am perfectly fine with 1080p on a 10-13 inch display without scaling up, but anything higher than that would simply be overkill since everything would be so much smaller and unusably tiny.

But that Zenbook infinity from Asus is soooooo good though, you hafta admit that.......now I am just waiting on MS to fix scaling (hopefully in 8.1).

You got me there! I was just being overly specific since they're relatively distant relatives from most other lemurs. :)

I want to chime in on the resolution issue. I was always an avid person of higher resolution until I started using 1080p on screens less than 13'. I had an xps12 for a little while and things just looked so small and when I tried to get the scaling to fix that, it just looked cheap and wonkey. Now on android for example, my phone is 4.7 inches and 1080p and thats fantastic, probably because the scaling is set up correctly. Either way, in the end, I am happy that they are using quality displays I just hope that the scaling gets sorted out with windows 8.1. My major issue with the xps11 is going to be the keyboard. I think the xps line has one of the best keyboards around, even better than lenovo (flame suit on). If they can't get the keyboard right on this, then I think they are going to loose alot of the business/professionals who would want this.

about the keyboards: lol. I personally think both are good, such that it ends up boiling down to the typography painted on the keys. For that, I like Lenovo's better, but the XPS line still looks better than most.

About 1080p on the Dell XPS12, I don't own the machine, but I have used one quite extensively at a local BestBuy and find the resolution ppi at 100% to not be much of an issue at all for me. I think 1080p on an 11.6" sccreen wold be fine too, though the Surface Pro's screen is somewhat troublesome to read at times.
