Dell today introduced the all new XPS 15z laptop, a thin 15-inch multimedia notebook wrapped in a strong aluminum shell. The Dell XPS 15z offers 2nd-generation "Sandy Bridge" Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, optional 15.6-inch Full HD (1080p) WLED display, a backlit keyboard and up to eight hours of battery life (according to Dell).

Engadget wasn't too impressed with the build quality.

To me, the 15z doesn't seem all that special. At a slightly lower price point, you can get an HP dv6tqe with far better specs with slightly less battery life. And really, the XPS 15z is not even all that thin. If looks are what is drawing you to a MBP, the HP Envy laptops do a better job of luring you away, in my opinion. Bottom line, the 15z doesn't seem to have any glaring faults and is a pretty well-rounded consumer laptop, but it also doesn't stand out.

I never said the 15z wasn't an overall "pretty good" package. I was referring only to Engadget's comments on the build quality, which I find highly worrying:
The bolded parts, particularly the fact that placing more weight on the keyboard and even "audibly restrict airflow," seems quite worrying to me.

Agree with the dv6tqe. I configured one with the 30% coupon for under $1000 which includes a 1080p screen and a FAR FAR FAR better video card. This thing can't play any real games on decent settings. The other sad part is trying to add another GB of GPU memory like that will do anything significant for performance. dv6tqe wins in the multimedia department overall and its cheaper.

Almost good, but no quad option and a chicklet keyboard.

My first impression was "this looks real good, something I would like to get". But after looking at the Engadget review/comparison, it does look like an apple laptop. I prefer uniqueness and plus the build quality doesn't seem to be so good either.

It's too bad they didn't copy it right down to the keyboard. That's where it has a bit of an identity crisis, with the lattice design for the speakers and the pudgy keys with futurist typography. I guess they couldn't copy everything or they'd be in big trouble! :p
