The much rumored Dell Latitude E series appears that it's close to release. This weekend the Latitude E6400 ruggedized version laptop showed up on Dell.com where it's actually configurable and available for purchase.
As you would expect the Latitude E6400 offerings include the latest Intel Montevina processor platform, below are the options being offered:
- Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26GHz 3M L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
- Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.40GHz 3M L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
- Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53GHz 6M L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
- Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 (2.53GHz 6M L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
- Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (2.80GHz 6M L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

Memory options include up to 8.0GB (only useful if you opt for Vista 64-bit), storage can be configured in the form of a ruggedized hard drive or SSD, and WWAN is offered via Verizon, AT&T and Sprint. The only graphics option with the E6400 ATG is integrated Intel graphics at this time. The Latitude E6400 ATG also has an outdoor viewable screen according to the configuration page, which is consistent with past ATG versions of the Latitude. The ATG is targeted at those that work in the field such as construction workers.Only the E6400 ATG configuration page is available, and there are no detailed images or juicy flash based tours of the rest of the Latitude E-series on Dell.com to be found at the moment. Engadget leaked the E6400 ATG info and pictures back in March where you can get a good look at this new semi-rugged laptop.

Forum members have also figured out where to find the E6400 options.
At the moment it says delivery from 15 September.
Dell are up to their usual pricing tricks like including a combo drive in the base configuration and wanting another $50 for a DVD burner.

That last picture of the ATG is killer. Looks like a futuristic version of the XPS. Never paid much attention to this until now.

3K USD for what all of us would choose!!

Well it appears that most (if not all) pages either will not load now, or have errors in them.
Best kept secret award goes to Dell! -

The non-rugged versions start at about $1200. -

You have an extraneous "&" at the end of the URL.
-
So, that would make Dell that first big company to offer the P9500 then, glad to see its actually out there.
-
They allow you to choose ExpressCard or PCMCIA? Sweet! Dell really did go all out here.

Did they take it down already? When I click your link it just gives an error.

How heavy is the E6400? It got HDMI? I didnt see any picture.
I wish I can get it at 1280x800 with back LED.
You can choose no optical drive and its minus $4. Come on Dell. You think we are that stupid?
For the first time, the biz laptop doesnt come auto with 3 yr warranty. -
As to the warranty, I don't know what you're looking at, but the lowest option is "3 Year Limited Warranty and 3 Year Mail-in Service [Included in Price]", and goes up from there, to +$99 for 3YR onsite next business day, all the way up to "4 Year ProSupport for End Users and 4 Year NBD On-site Service [add $338]"

I thought on engadget's slide it said that one of the new latitudes had DDR3, I forget which one, but was it for either E6400 or E6500, I'm surprised that with their late release date that it's still DDR2, I guess i held off for nothing...

Anyone know the dimensions of these new Latitudes? I am hoping that the E6500 will be thinner than the Lenovo T500 (1.2") and offer LED backlit as well as display port.
Also I don't see the NVS160 on Nvidia's website. That would be nice if this is a 55nm videocard. -

The draft specs obtained by Engadget in March said the new models would be thinner and lighter than the previous models. That leaves it open to be a small difference or a big one.
The launch webcast is tomorrow (see this announcement). We should get more details there.

I'm really interested in E6400 ATG but ... having 1066FSB processor and NOT having DDR 3 (1066MHz) ?? It is just stupid to me ... and you should remember that DDR3 will be happy with 1.5V (opposed to 1.8 V DDR2). I'm dissapointed. Dell is trying to get 'as much' as possible from this product and in the end it looks silly to me. I mean that this is no pro-business attitude. FTC should look at them - why aren't they giving option 'without OS' ?! And this DVD/Combo that is worth 4$ ... this is ridiculous.
-
Hopefully the 12 inch Latitude E doesn't have a huge ugly bezel like the Thinkpad X200 does.
-
I got the D630 is way more heavier than that.
At 4.5 lb is not bad.
I guess no HDMI and 2 audio jack port. -
The post on Engadget leaked from Dell showed DDR2-667/800 memory.

Weight-wise, here's the small print from the PDF datasheet that someone found.

Why is it so hard for finding this page? I go to the Dell page but the E6400/E6500 is NOT listed anywhere and is not found on a search of their entire site.
I think this is absolutely appalling. Is it some sort of secret?!? I would not buy a Dell unless there is ABSOLUTELY no other laptop available to me that has the specs I want. Even if there is a comparable laptop for $200 more, I'd choose that notebook. -
-
I was also wondering how they might compare to any new XPS line that may come out (probably having the Centrino 2 Montevina?).
Will the new E6xxx Latitude line be more of a business line?
I'm comparing these laptops to the Sony Vaio Z, HP dv4t and Thinkpad SL300 and Thinkpad T400. I suppose most of these laptops will be priced around $1800 after being configured... main questions are availability and how they compare among similar features/specs. -
