<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-02-25T17:10:36 -->Dell has leaked the names of the Latitude D630 and Latitude D830 notebooks on their driver download pages. Though information is scarce, a couple of university websites are indicating a late April release for these business laptops that will have the updated Intel Santa Rosa platform.
Above is a screenshot showing the Latitude D630 and D830 selection on the Dell driver download site
The D630 and D830 will obviously be replacing the current Latitude D620 and D820 notebooks which are 14.1" widescreen and 15.4" widescreen laptops respectively. The Intel Santa Rosa platform will be the major upgrade with these releases, Intel announced it will be shipping Santa Rosa in the April to May timeframe. A Swiss University website indicates the D630 will be available to students there at the end of April while a Princeton University page indicates students coming in for the Fall of 2007 will have the D630 as supported option to buy.

Intel will be releasing the "Santa Rosa" platform at the end of April, a time when many companies such as Dell will be refreshing their notebook offerings. Santa Rosa will include some of the following enhancements:
- 800MHz front side bus (current Merom tops out at 667MHz FSB)
- 64-bit support (as the current Merom already offers)
- Dual-core (as the current Merom already offers)
- 4MB L2 cache
- GM965/PM965 chipsets (Crestline for improved graphics)
- 82566MM Gigabit Network chip
- 4965AGN wireless chip (Kedron) with 802.11n support
- Wi-Max and HSPDA integration
The Intel T7700 processor is one of the Centrino Pro offerings we know of, it will be a 2.40GHz processor with an 800MHz FSB. It is likely the D630 and D830 would be offering this processor.
It's likely the Dell D630 and D830 will carry the new Intel Centrino Pro branding (view large image)There are no details or pictures of the D630 and D830 at the current time. It's expected they'll look similar to the current D620 and D820 as the look and design was just refreshed last year.

Any word on whether Santa Rosa is going to be Vista only?

In order to support companies that have not made the switch to Vista (and don't want to) Dell and others will have to support XP on business laptops otherwise certain large companies will simply not buy them. However, whether they'll make the D630 and D830 available via the web with XP I don't know, but my guess would be yes they will for their biz offerings.

Looks good. Great find, Andrew. We always love leaked info.
Looks like I can get a new notebook before Summer, then. -
There appears to be not a great dell(sorry couldn't resist) of difference aside from the network speed increase. I'm sceptical of the additional 133MHZ FSB upgrade. I wonder if i'll be able to put the 802.11n card in my D620??
The question i find myself asking is what will the graphics chip be like on these models, since there has been a lot of discussion on the Quadro NVS 110M. Will it finally get a gaming card or will it keep the Quadro line....if so what one???
I wishi could be happy about this release but i've just confirmed my order for the highest spec D620 -
Dell is already offering the "4965AGN wireless chip (Kedron) with 802.11n support". So the basic difference would be the faster FSB from 667mhz to 800mhz?

How long after the release of Santarosa that AtI & Nvidia will release the DX10 cards?

It must be so difficult for a large corporation like Dell to keep anything secret.
Cool info - I'm hoping that while Dell's Latitude lineup won't be refreshed, their Inspiron lineup will be. It direly needs a makeover. Hopefully the Motorola Razr guy they hired, Ronald G. Garriques, will come up with something nice. -
Those who own 640m's may have noticed that on the sheet dell gives you that lists the specs, it says on several of the components 640m/XPSM1410. But is there going to be a XPS M1410?
I sure hope they offer more powerful GPU's in the D630 and D830.... -
i wonder if they will put the d630 internals in teh ATG

Just for speculation...
What price do you think the d630 would come out at? I was looking at reviews when the d620 came out and they were nearing the $2k point.
If that's the case, I think I'd rather have a d620 for $1k.

dell has great support - they are even supporting notebooks, which they will sell only in the future )
-
Yeah, Dell definitely needs to get some decent graphics cards into the Latitudes, they really don't have a competitor to HP NC8430 yet.

I am not sure if you all are aware of this, but the D620 have sooo much problems with the screen!
You can go to the Dell forum and have a look. They have 2 threads going. The first one got sooo long, they have to create the 2nd thread.
Now they have closed the 2nd thread and there is no more posting allowed.
Basicially in a nut shell, the screen are horrible. It is not bright at all, even in a regular office env. You get limited viewing angle. Then Dell came out with a fix for it. Now Dell really say its fix. But there is soo much confusion!
I own the D620 for 2 months and I tell Dell to take it back after I got hit with the 10% penalty.
I just hope the screen is fix this time for the D630. At least brighter and have better viewing angle! -
I don't want to buy a Latitude simply because the graphics cards offered aren't great at 3D applications like games.
The XPS M1410 would be interesting - I'd guess it'd be a 14.1" notebook, with maybe a Geforce 7600 or equivalent (DX10 - 8600)? It'd certainly be something to look forwards to. Also, HP is apparently putting out a new line, between Pavilion and Voodoo, to address the gaming end, but not ultra-high end. We'll certainly see a lot of new options for notebooks in the future.
The XPS M1410 would interest me greatly. -

I really want the Dell Latitude D630 to have the Nvidia Quadro NVS 300M. It is powerful enough and it works well with video rendering.

The Dell Precision M90 has a 64 bit Windows Vista option. Is there much of a chance the Dell Latitude D630 will have this option. That would be cool .
-
I really like to see dell offer better screen and a more powerful graphic card.
-
I am waiting for the D630 aswll. I hope it's not that much more expensive then the D620.
1680x1050 and an Express Card slot would be nice -

New laptops are always expensive. Unfortunately I have to buy it by July. So the D630 will have a premium price over the D620 .

A new D620 with:
T7200
2 GB DDR2-667 (2x1024)
nVidia NVS 110M
WXGA+ (1440x900)
Bluetooth
9 cells battery
100 GB 7200 rpm HDD
shipping
will cost me 1440 now. (Last day for this price maybe.) I wonder what a comparable D630 would cost. There is only change in CPU, motherboard and hopefully GPU. -

If you wait until late 2007 to buy a car and you compare the difference in price between a 2007 and a 2008 model, the 2008 will be more expensive. Even if the change between the 2007 and 2008 is unnoticeable, it costs more because it is new. This is a good analogy to how pricing works in the business world. It does not always make sense.

the 9200 inspiron to the e1705. The e1705 alone has been around for 1 1/2 years. -

Why is not not releasing any information about the Dell Latitude D630? I want to know what will be in it, so I can decide if I want to buy it.
-
You have to guess the GPU, the other parts aren't difficult

The page of the Swiss University changed. Here isn't even a single word about a D630 or end of April.

I talked to someone at the IT department in my graduate school. It should arrive in May.

I hope Dell finally releases the specifications of the D630 on Monday because that is the first Monday for April.
-
I don't see what the first monday of April has to do with the D630

I doubt it. A WSXGA+ resolution would be a nice option, but manufacturers do not think customers want it in a 14.1" laptop. I disagree because I want it in a14.1" screen.
-
I want it too, you want it. We are both customers

Dell is not releasing any new information on the D630. Dell is making me angry.

A news release on the Centrino Pro platform:
http://laptoping.com/intel-centrino-pro.html
Just released today. -
Here in Canada, the D620 is cheaper than ever starting at 1319$can (new low price from today)
also 0% leasing until April 26th! Sounds like an end of line laptop Ahhh Can't wait for the D630. I just hope the screen will be nice (unlike the first revision of the 620) and at a reasonable price... -

It is April 18th and Dell still has not provided any new information!!!
-
-
Homer_Jay_Thompson blathering blatherskite
I know it will be released around Mid-Late May. However, Dell can at least tell its customers what the product will look like and which parts will be in it. For example, will Dell finally upgrade the nVidia Quadro NVS 110M to the 300M? Does Dell plan to upgrade the screen to WSXGA+ resolution?
-
-
Isn't wsxga+ too big for a 14'' inches? It's the resolution I have on my 22"! What is the pixel size on such a screen? I think the pixels would be a bit smaller than on the D830 WUXGA.. but wait, if I place my face near the screen, the screen actually appear bigger OK, I want this screen!
In other news I think the 110m is way to old to be on a next gen laptop it's like putting a V4 engine in a mustang. Just common sense... lets wait and see -
Homer_Jay_Thompson blathering blatherskite
I think Dell will upgrade the 110M to the 300M. The smallest pixels are on a 15.4" WUXGA screen. I think the 14.1" WSXGA+ is second and Toshiba's SXGA+ on a 12.1" laptop is third.
-
-
Ahhh I want a wsxga+ screen!

Edit: never mind, I found this little tool: http://www.raydreams.com/prog/dpi.aspx and it says the DPI should be about 141.2.
