    I have never gotten to a CTO HP so far...the link is broken on the 8530w or I am plain unlucky...

    Should be.

    No refresh of the tablet though.

    Just picked up a 8730w with WUXGA, FX 3700M, 4GB, T9550 for 1421 tax and shipped with a free advanced docking station. I can wait till the M6500 hits outlet. ;)

    Those are the ones that "support win 7" for now, perhaps some other models later on?

    I'm actually a little surprised at the refresh, as the 2530p uses LV CPUs, didn't expect any i7 cpus coming in at LV for a while yet.

    But the new chassis looks pretty, what you can see of it anyway.

    How? Where?

    I think it uses i3 or i5 that are the ones due to come out first.

    Probably.

    How? Where? What?

    You mean where it looks pretty? In those grimy little cellphone pictures of the supposed upcoming HP workstation. :D

    The m6400 is a great machine and besides the processor and graphics card there isn't much of a difference between both of these machines. How much faster and how much better is that between the 3700m? I wouldn't be buying this machine anytime soon until the day its sli quadro cards then i will make the decision. Its time someday for sli quadro, but the W500 has switchable graphics nice its time for that too.

    Still want to complain about overpriced Dells? :p

    Aye, there isn't all that much of a difference between the two models, but the i7 CPUs do offer substantially more performance for power users compared to the M6400.

    I can put a qx9300 in there anyway, i have the Toshiba x505 so i have my core i7 already so i am very very happy i just don't see a lot of a difference yet and also i don't know how to tell when it overclocks to 2.8 ghz doesn't even say when i am using Everest.

    I'll be receiving the M6500 (covet version) on January 4th. It's more than I should be spending, but I want to experience raw, unbridled power out of the gate (for a laptop, anyway). My first laptop purchase was an HP NC800 five years ago and I am impressed with business laptop build quality. This will be my first Dell laptop (though I've CTO'd Dell laptops for my mother and sister - they've held up very well). I hope to have this system last 6 years...

    I was very interested in the HP 8730w, but ultimately went to Dell for the following reasons:
    * i7-920XM vs QX9300
    * 2 HDD/SSD bays vs 1
    * 16gig DDR3 1333mhz memory max vs 8gig DDR2 1066mhz memory max
    * more features for wireless options
    * 28% discount (granted by request with sale rep over phone) vs 18% w/HP's CTO

    Here are the system specs. Once drivers come out for Windows 7 support of the Intel 5150 WiMax card and the Dell 420 UWB PAN, I'll move it to Windows 7 instead of Win XP pro x64:

    224-8029 1 Mobile Precison E-Star M6500, Covet
    317-2584 1 Intel Core i7-920XM Quad Core 2.00GHz 8MB for M6500

    I'll also be putting an Intel X25-M 160 G2 drive in the primary drive bay, leaving the Samsung SSD in storage, after I image the drive (specifically, SSDSA2MH160G2R5).

    The second drive bay will be populated with a HITACHI Travelstar HD20500 IDK/7K (7200rpm 16MB cache) until Intel's SSDs go 3rd gen and get larger/cheaper/faster.

    I'll try to put together a review of this unit once I have the newer drives in it.

    Any suggestions on benchmarking tools to use or particulars to cover? Also, what kind of things am I *not* allowed to say when I review this unit? I don't want to labor on a review only to have it pulled for violating NBR's TOS...

    Wish me luck with (what will in all likelihood be) the rev A01 motherboard, folks... :D

    Useful Tools to Benchmark your laptop:

    CPU Z for CPU information
    GPU Z for GPU information
    HWMonitor for temps information
    Futuremark for overall benchmarks
    PC Mark Vantage gives results on the system, but offers better results on Vista.
    PC Mark 05 more benchmark tools
    HDTune for the HDD is a good way to measure its performance
    3DMark Vantage for 3D GPU performance
    Core Temp for checking your CPU temps
    RMClock to be in control of you CPU
    Battery Eater to test and know the maximum and minimum battery runtime.

    That's a crazy deal, where did you get it?
    Now I feel bad for buying my HP a year ago :(
    Now hopefully HP will offer Dual HDD this time. I am expecting more than just a CPU upgrade, at least features wise.

    HP business Outlet. Paid a bit more than that in the end for the warranty upgrade, but still had a great deal.

    Will be sending it back though, unless you want it. ;)

    Warranty is not global coverage for refurbished units unfortunately, only North America.

    Was extremely disappointed as the CSR I worked with said it was global. I really like the unit.

    If you mean the new EliteBook models, I don't think so. I've read the new models only will have support for i7 processors, Quadro FX3800M, DisplayPort as standard (replacing HDMI) and "Night Light" feature as standard too. No exciting new features are expected, but a 'refresh' of the current models.
