The Dell Inspiron e1705 is the same as the Dell Inspiron 9400 being offered in Europe and also on the Dell Business site in the USA. The e1705 comes with an nVidia Go 7800 256MB graphics card. Still going with the ugly white and gray color scheme. Yay, Dell!

Is that a Go7800GTX or just a Go7800? I did not know there were two versions.

Anyway, I wish Dell changed their design. . . white bumpers are so ugly in my opinion.

    Thanks for posting. :)

Chaz, I checked Nvidia website this morn and found the new line of 7 series go gpus. 7300, 7400, 7600, 7800, 7800gtx. The 7600 is the closest to the 6800go from what I see in the specs.

Yea... well, there won't be a XPS line if it were GTX.... other thing... there is no bluetooth option?!?! ... and about the colors... is there a quicksnap option on USA? there is an option in dell mexico, different colors and so on (of course, its the 9300 not 9400/E1705)

    look, inspiron 9300:

    http://lastore.dell.com/store/frame...ity_type=CFGSET&entity_key=INSP9300_ES_PRMXCO

    6000:

    http://lastore.dell.com/store/frame...ity_type=CFGSET&entity_key=INSP6000_ES_PRMXCO

Both have the options of coloured covers

so in performance order talking in fill rate and vertices/second

    7800 GTX>7800>6800Ultra>7600>6800

The e1705 aka 9400 is only on the small business site in the US. So its not possible to use the 750 off coupon. Just wait a couple of months and it will show up on dell home. Then you can get this beauty for under $1250!

EDIT: Well I guess its on dell home now. When I checked last night it says when I tried to configure it "Error, we could not process your request"

The cheapest you can get this notebook to is $1665. I did use the $750 coupon, but I also factored in tax and shipping.

it's a little disappointing that Dell didn't take the opportunity to redesign the 17" notebook line with this new processor and instead just put new components inside the 9300. The e1705 name is kinda weird too...why didn't they just stick with just Inspiron 9400? Annoying really.

The price point on this for a dual core processor and 7800 graphics card is pretty darn good though -- probably the best of any dual core gaming notebook available right now.

Just curious: Abaxter, do you think the price will be way higher if Dell put this machine (with or without redesigning) into a new series? And if you're deciding to purchase a new gaming laptop, will you go for this powerful, cheap but ugly looking and weird naming E1705, instead of the infamous XPS M170?

definately time for a redesign. trim a pound off, and i'll gladly send my 12 month old i9200 to ebay.

    "1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz or 2GB"

is that up to 2GB of ram? it would be a shame to have 2 cpus that support virtualization and a 2GB limit.

Dell is so lazy!!!!! ^_^ atleast everyone else is doing something a little innovative with their dual core notebooks, they didn't even change the design!

core duo uses a different chipset i believe, so no,

but even if you could it would be cheaper to just buy the new notebook i think, but if you bought it it would still be a Dell and you will just end up in tears

You might be surprised by what else Dell is working on. We saw some things that were very impressive. I can't comment further, but they wanted these to be progressive updates for thsoe wanting more power immediately. To be fair, they should be the first to ship a dual core machine.

Well, no, but I can assure you there is no XPS with a display of that size that will be released this year. They do have some neat XPS stuff coming and a design concept that we saw that was extremely cool. There's more too, I'm impressed with some their innovation.

A 15.4 gaming laptop would be nice..... I've seen the 9300 and changed my mind about the 9400, its just too big.

(Inspiron 6000 with X1600 or 7800 or 7600 would be my election)

Sorry cotolay, I dont think there will be a i6000 with a duo anytime soon. Dell wants you to pay more for the e1750 to get the duo and great graphics. Marketing Scheme.

But Dell doesn't want the i6000 to be a powerhouse. They like the cheap mobility part of the i6000. I think of the i6000 not in its own group but a bigger i700m

    Abaxter,

Does your Inpiron boot from USB/Firewire external HDD?

I bought a similar system a week ago, it has not arrived yet. The thought of not being able to boot from USB scares me.

    Thanks,

Yes, it should boot from an external as long as you set it that way.
