Dell has released a new 15.4" mainstream laptop, the Dell Inspiron e1505 Core Duo laptop is now available via Dell.com. The e1505 can be configured with up to a 2.0GHz Core Duo processor. The e1505 will initially be available with just integrated graphics but expect a dedicated graphics solution to be offered at some point, likely with an ATIX1400 graphics card.
The look of the e1505is the same as that of the current Pentium M basedInspiron 6000. The e1505 is described below on the Dell site:
"With an optional dual-core processor, up to 2GB of shared memory, optional Dual-channel memory, a 15.4-inch widescreen display, optional TV Tuner and stereo sound, plus up to 100GB of storage capacity, you can get more out of entertainment. More power, more storage and more speed add up to an intense audio/visual experience. Watch DVDs and videos, listen to your favorite songs, organize and edit digital photos, and more - the Inspiron E1505 has enough power to make it the perfect PC for those who want a great balance of price and performance."

Looks good. Now if it had a better GPU

The X1400 version's coming later, just not now. It's actually a double improvement over the previous model which used just an X300 (which would translate to an X1300).

Man, there are a lot of good notebooks coming down the pike. I'll be curious to see people's impressions of the X1400 version. I've been about this close -----> <----- to making a purchase, but I think I'm gonna sit back for another 30 days or so and see what else rolls out.

Does anyone have an insight as to when a dedicated graphics card option would be available? What has been the time lag on past/recent Dell products? I've been waiting for the 1505, but need a dedicated graphics card. I guess I'll be waiting some more. -
I don't think there's a date for that, it shouldn't take long anyway. The reason we know it's gonna have a dedicated GPU is because of the chilean website which clearly gives the option for a x1400 ATI card. Really, I don't think it's going to be long, give it a week or two.

Anyway, I think they would gain an even bigger market by putting an X1600 or 7600.....

The order page lists the front side bus as 667Mhz, but the memory selection is limited to 533Mhz modules. Does anyone know if Dell will be offering faster memory at some point? Barring that option, can the laptop be ordered with a minimum memory configuration and upgraded with 667Mhz third party memory?
thanks... -
I talked with Dell about this today (when a dedicated graphics solution will be available with the E1505). They said that the word in their office is late April to early May. I'm not sure which solution it would be. Supposedly, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Dell displayed an unnamed Inspiron with a GeForce Go 7600. You can read an article related to that here:

This chip would be far better than an X1400. From what I've read, X1400 scores worse than an X700 in 3DMark05. Check out this review of the Acer Aspire 5672WLMi which uses an X1400. It's terrible! A score of 1655.

It seems certain that a dedicated video card will be offered soon.
The other make-or-break feature for me is whether they'll be offering the WUXGA screen. -
Hi, I'm new to the forum. It looks like a lot of great information is available here.
I'm getting a laptop for one of my sons, who's about to enter college. I'm trying to decide between the 1505 dual core and the 6000. The cost difference is only about $50.
The 1505 looks great, I'm just a little unsure since it just came out. Have there been any issues with the dual core chips?
Which would you recommend: the 6000, with the dedicated video card, or the 1505, with the intergrated card? He's not a big gamer. I'm more concerned about productivity. He may want to do some video editing in the future though.
Thanks,
Bing -
I would wait for the E1505 to come out with a dedicated graphics option. Ordinarily, if he isn't a gamer, the integrated graphics chip would probably be fine, but if he might do video editing, then it would be advisable to go with a dedicated graphics chip option. Dual core notebooks don't seem to have any known problems yet, and I find it unlikely that there will be any problems in the foreseeable future. They are great for doing multiple things at the same time with no slowdown on the computer. Also, there are already applications that can take advantage of dual core capability, and I'm sure there will be more in the future.

Just wanted to give everyone the heads up, the x1400 is no available on the e1505...thinking about ordering one.
