Battery and lack of upgradable ram is a killer for me.

So when QVC was selling these specs for pre-order a week ago they claimed a $688 retail so they could sell for $559 what Dell is now selling for $479.

Looks better than previous Inspiron Minis, but its just too expensive for what it is. I'd take an HP Mini 1000 over this almost any day.

However, if they dropped the price $50 and made the "coming soon" high-res WXGA screen available at the $399 price point, I'd be first in line.

Lol i feel bad for the people who bought from QVC haha.

$50 for the processor upgrade is really good.

A month back or so made a guess in another thread that these things would start at about $379 with Linux and go up to about $699 fully equipped so the price is about where I expected it to be.

The $688 QVC was advertising as the retail value is likely what a Dell Mini 10 will sell for with the higher res, tv-tuner, and GPS...if the people that pre-ordered from QVC don't receive those specs they should be very angry.

yeah, but QVC probably scooped up an Unbelievable amount on these things there was alot of hype heading into it before the show started.

The Z520 is priced at $40 and the Z530 is priced at $70. Since the difference between the two is $30, I don't think paying $50 to go from Z520 -> Z530 is worth it.

Too bad the promised high resolution screen isn't on this.

The lack of upgradeable RAM is a deal killer too

considering that you have pay tax @ Dell and shipping, I don't think QVC is such a bad deal after all. In my case I would be paying 523@Dell vs $559@QVC

It's really nice to see the HDMI port on Mini 10, but why can't they add the gigabit controller on it? How much more would that cost?

It could use some more RAM.

Either way, my feelings are that the pricing is still to high at both QVC and Dell. If it's priced like this now...wait a few months til the rest of the spec's are released..

Alas, who know's what the pricing will be then ;)

    This has sealed RAM?

Fix that, and have it ship with Vista and I'd be estatic over it. Of course ship it with Vista, more RAM, AND a Geforce, for $400, and...

Is the hard drive user replaceable as it is on most Dells? One thing I dislike about most of these sub-sub notebooks is their use of proprietary hard drive sizes, but this sucker uses a normal laptop drive, which is awesome.

They are not proprietery, they just don't have many uses so there is not a lot of options out there. They are simply 1.8" drives with ZIFF connectors. Right now the best performing replacements are the runcores. There just isn't much use for them outside a netbooks and small media/MP3 players. A very very small % of people who buy these would ever consider upgrading the HD. Factor all of this together and their just isn't much motivation for someone to come out with upgrades.
