    The Dell Inspiron 9400 with Intel Duo Core Yonah processor has been listed on the Dell Europe site. The 17" screen Inspiron 9400 features an available 256MB nVidia Geforce Go 7800 graphics card and up to 1.86GHz Intel Duo Core Processor in current listed configurations.

    Dell UK Inspiron 9400 listing page (view larger image)

    Since this product is not listed on the Dell USA site it's not clear yet if they'll use the same model number for the U.S. equivalent model. In the past, Dell has somewhat varied model numbers between Europe and the USA. We expect an announcement will be made this week at CES regarding any similar U.S. notebook release. Meanwhile, here's a rundown on the configurations they have listed on the Dell Europe site (list prices on the Dell site are in British Pounds, rough approximations for $ USD are in parentheses)

    I'm going to assume that's the integrated graphics solution for the 945GM.

    That's the Graphics Processor inside the 945 chipset. While no doubt faster than its GMA 900 predesessor, not a gamers delight.

    there is no photo, but i'm 99% sure the answer to this is "no" on the numpad and the look will be identical to the 9300 based on what those that have seen this have said.

    As suspected, "core" processors mean a very, very steep price.

    Not quite as good as i was expecting, but the increase in bus spreed would be nice. the prices seem really high, but they are also without any rebate. i wonder how much the 7800's will drop in say 6 months. i could see dell selling alot of cards to us 9300 owners if the price is reasonable.

    Question, Why GMA900 is more expensive than GMA950 ??

    I thought that 950 should better than 900 but the price is lower..

    well, core duo is much expensive than I thought. I'm expect that AMD should launch the new Turion sooner to impede the intel's prices....

    Actually for a dual core, 256MB 7800GTX (mobile), thats a very reasonable price, especially considering what the AMD X-2 are going for these days. The Intel Duo should also have more battery life and run cooler as well. :)

    Most likely. Dell is, afterall based in the U.S., although they do have an annoying habit of releasing the newest stuff to Europe first.

    Hmmm.....and I just bought the 9300 this last December.....crap! But I couldn't wait, I had to use a laptop for work too....at $2232, I could buy it (if there were a coupon, lol). I wonder what kind of battery would they give with it (6-cell, 9-cell, 12-cell?) and if it's bluetooth enabled too (it should since mine is). Is the 7800 Ultra an upgrade to the 7800 GTX that comes on the XPS? Gotta say it's better spec'ed and cheaper than the XPS.

    Go figure. I got my new 9300 last month and the specs for the new one comes out. Doh!!! How much of an upgrade is the Go 7800 Ultra versus the G0 6800?

    Snyperx,

    I believe is just the clock settings and that is about it. The 7800 GTX has more pipelines etc.

    Looks like I am going to have to buy another laptop in June and then a new desktop. Man all that money just to get something that will be outdated in 6 months. That is worse than investing in cars. :D

    This is how the cards are setup: Thanks to Meaker in the other post.

    7800GTXgo = 24 pipes, 8 vertex units, 256 bit mem (400/550)
    6800U = 12 pipes, 5 vertex units, 256 bit mem (450/550)
    6800 = 12 pipes, 5 vertex units, 256 bit mem (300/300)

    ok 7800ultra go gpu isnt on the market. could the 7800ultra go mean the 7800gtx go? Because when you look at the m170 on the dell euro page, it has the option of 6800ultra and 7800ultra. I think they would keep the same interface now because that means the cards would be interchangable with the m170.

    I don't think its a mistake... maybe its a downclocked 7800GTX but more than a 7800non-ultra non-gtx.(XPS wouldn't have too much to do if they were the same).

    Ccbr01: By saying the same interface you mean that 9300 users will be able to upgrade their gpu, and so the 9400 owners in the future? Well, thats not MXM but a good start so the lappy lasts 4 or 5 years.

    Smith_X as i see it, both are just the same. 950 is more recent than 900 but both are IGP with shared memory. Sorry if i sound rude but both are just BS lol.

    GMA 900:

    http://www.intel.com/design/graphics/gma900/#Specifications

    Notice that max memory is 128 megabytes.

    GMA 950

    http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/

    Max memory is 224.

    Some benchmarks:

    http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1617355,00.asp

    A radeon x300 easily beats GMA 900

    I would think the interface would be the same. THe i9300 mobo and the xps m170 mobo are the same. So I wouldnt think they would change video cards interfaces because of new parts and the money to make a switch to a new interface.

    Edit:
    ogando_jose: Well, why wouldnt they put a 7800gtx go in the i9400. I know that would be a drawback to the m170, but the m170 isn't dual core, according to the dell euro page. So, couldn't it equal out? I'm just saying some jibberish before the release tomorrow.

    Well, according to the dell euro site, gma intergrated and nvidia will be in the i9400. will they just make two separate bios apps for either the gma intergrated or the nvidia card? That would be the only thing that comes to my mind,

    Not true. Remember that these are not US based prices. Take at look at the UK list prices for 9300 setups and compare them with these new ones. They are very reasonable, particularly the last one with the 7800 card.

    Unless they intergrated a program that could change the bios on the fly. But then you have to take in consideration of the lcd hookup to both cards and whatnot.

    I know there is one notebook - a Quanta, I believe - that has a GMA900 and a Go6600. It is possible to switch between them, but in order to do so, you must shut the notebook down, flip the switch, and then reboot. It is impossible to switch in Windows.

    hi :) I have been struck by the Inspiron 9400...and have been wondering why there are no reviews and little talk of it.

    This thread suggests it is not even released yet.
    I have been pricing it out on dell.ca.

    @$2229 -650 coupon but prolly then +350 as free memory upgrade gone. From the specs, tho, the base spec without coupons looks like an incredible price.

    I have been lookin for a catch all day.

    Why, for example is it like 800$ cheaper than the XPs 2 (which seems to have lower specs!?

    And from the site..the thing seems to be available...but i have not got to they buy part...would it then tell me i have like 1 month to wait for it?

    bottom line: what is the catch and is this[inspiron 9400] thing shipping now??

    And finally, Ima little worried about Dell's support record...should i be spending 299$ on a 3 year extend warranty plan?

    TIA :)

    It's not shipping yet, though it should be the first core duo to do so.

    Wouldn't be too sure... anyone heard of G71 (a.k.a. 7800 Ultra)

    "90nm refresh of their G70 core sporting 32 pipelines and higher clocks reaching 700Mhz on the core according to some estimates."

    If Nvidia continue with the trend of making desktop and mobile GPU parts directly comparable then this is amazing.
    :cool:

    ... However now that I've got everyone excited looking in more detail at Dells detailed spec page it doesn't actually state Ultra, only Go 7800 so this maybe a typo on the spec overview page.

    As far as I know, it's not a typo. The new one you're referring to might go on an XPS which I've heard they're working on. Though no concrete information is out yet. That's my understanding though.
