I notice that the Product Details page is missing for the Inspiron 6000. I saw a post on another web forum that said the starting models will have shared memory and that the advanced performance model won't be available for another month. Obviously, that's just hearsay, but it makes me wonder whether to wait for this unit or not.

You can actually customize one of the models listed on the Dell site. Ship date shows up as 2/2/2005.

never heard of "media accelerator 900" video card...

I was considering returing my 8600 for the 6000 when it came out with a good video card, but as i had thought, to get it configured nearly the same and have a better videocard (i didnt even add that to the price yet bc its not there) than my 9600 it would be several hundred dollers more.. So I'm happy with my 8600

Do you think Dell will put this chip in the 700m or wait and come out with a new model to replace it?

I hope the next online coupon from Dell includes a big price drop on the other models.

This is ridiculous. the 8600 IS better than this thing.. I have a 2ghz Dothan already, with a 9600/128 meg.. Why would they cripple their system like this with such a boat anchor video card?!?!

That really, really makes me upset that the 6000 doesn't offer the X300 like it was supposed to. Of course, you have to take into consideration, that part of the website isn't complete yet, so they could still be adding options, including that graphics card one.

The high-end model is showing on the Dell page today. Base price is $1855. The video card is:

Integrated Intel® Media Accelerator 900 Graphics

    Shipdate is 2/3/2005.

They probably only have the integrated graphics option because it's the small business page you are looking at. Dell always short changes small business on graphics. Sit back and relax, home users will probably have more options.

I weep.. This is really sad. This is possibly the worst laptop on their line. Are they really that pent up in denying me a decent video card with a hardware based port replicator?!

It's definately not the worst, but of course it's not the best. I think the number "6000" represents that. It's a great business computer, I mean, I has DDR2 memory and the new Pentium M processor, plus, it's smaller and easy to carry around. It's obviously not meant for gaming or anything else. I'm sure the 9300 will be the gaming machine you're looking for. I can't wait until tomorrow, I'm ordering either the 9300 or the HP ZD8000. Anyone else know of any notebook sites with sub 2100 dollar notebooks with DDR2 memory and PCI-E?

    the 9300 won't have a dock, so it's a non-starter for me.

I don't understand why you guys hate the media accelerator 900 so much. From reading some of the preliminary tests of it, it gets like 4600 in 3dmark 2001 and 2200 in 3dmark 2003. Isn't that like in the Radeon 9000 mobility range? It certainly sounds like a step up from the old 855gm intel integrated graphics.

Other sites are still reporting that the 6000 will come with a 128 mb video card, but that seems to be the high end just the same. I think Dell will put up the 128 MB Video card for the 6000 in the coming days, if not tomorrow.

Also, I'm wondering what this means for the 8600 now as the 6000 seems more of a step up from the 5000 series than anything else, and the 9300 will likely replace the 9200 obviously. Think dell will leave the 8000 series at the 8600?

The 5000 series will be phased out by the 6000 series.

CNET also gives an early glimpse into the 6000 and states that a dedicated video card will be available in February while the 100 GB video card will be available sometime in March. You can view the article here...

Has anyone heard of any information as to when Dell will offer a higher Pentium M than the 730? I know Intel has chips up to 2.13 Ghz but I guess its safe to say Dell will phase in higher chips along side of phasing in the video cards and larger hard drives?

A WUXGA screen for only $150 extra??! I didn't even know a 15.4' wuxga screen existed! Wouldn't it be very hard to read like 10 font on such a screen? It will be terribly sharp though. Any thoughts on this one?

Thanks. How do DVD's look on a WUXGA screen? It all depends on the scaling, I guess. WUXGA is like the best HDTV standard, far exceeding DVD resolutions.

I'm still very curious though, I mean if you buy a 15' (or even 17') TFT for your desktop, I don't think anything remotely close to WUXGA is on offer, they're usually WXGA, and that's quite a difference.

I have an inspiron 8600 with a WUXGA screen, and I love it. You can increase the size of the fonts through Dell's quick set program and as long as you're careful, it will look great on web pages. There are some circumstances if you make the font too large that it will screw up the format of the web pages. Otherwise, I find it extremely useful when i'm video editing, or even comparing documents, or browser windows side by side.

The X300 will be better than the integrated graphics, though they are a major step up from the 855 set. Performance should be between that of a 128 MB and 256 MB AGP card for notebooks...that would be my guess...but obviously the increase in FSB will benefit the laptop performance as well.

So is the Integrated Intel 900 graphics card better or a X300? Can I still play most games with the X300 compared to faster cards like the X600 and X700?
