I don't get it the Studio 14z looks the same, has better cpu, and comes with ion yet only cost $750(even less with coupons I bet) and you can even get a higher res screen. So what does this offer that the Studio 14z does not offer? Better battery life?

The Studio 14z with an SU9400 and Intel grpahics vs. one with a P series proceessor and Intel graphics would give you much more battery life since the SU uses at max 15W less power than a P Series.

Well that is true but I should have asked, how much more life would it really be?

Don't know. My Acer 3810T gets 8+ hours, the 14z already can get around 5-6h, so I'd say between 6-7+ with the 8 cell.

Is that with a core 2 duo or Solo? Still there isn't too much differentiate between this and the studio 14z.

Core 2 Duo. I have an SU9400 in my Timeline, and I can actually get around or over 8 hours on battery.

Well, Dell aims for the "z" on their models...I wonder how this will be applied on higher end XPS models...

Well, this is interesting, thanks Chaz!

I think I have found my laptop! I've been searching days for a good laptop with a reasonable price and I think this is it. If I'll buy this laptop, which I probably will because I really like what I see, I'm going for the 15z because it has a fairly big monitor. I also like the design of the laptop, it's very slim and has a lot of space so I can work with my movies.
Thanks for making this thread. I would never have found this laptop if it wasn't for you. I might come back and make a review of this laptop in a week or two.

I guess you're buying it to compliment the machine in your signature?

Anyway, we would appreciate any pictures/feedback if you decide to buy one.

I must be missing something. On dell's site the 14z has no optical drive and no CULV? Could someone please explain?

    Also no 15z either

The 14z wasn't just released either

This is the INSPIRON 14z and the INSPIRON 15z, not the STUDIO 14z and the STUDIO 15z.

Neither are available for purchase yet in the US.

I dont know, that link doesnt work for me.

All I know is that the Inspiron 14z will have an optical drive, but the Studio 14z does not.

These laptops are not available for purchase yet.

I know the 4570 is better than the 9400, so I want to say the 4530 is also better, but is it also better for the battery life?

A discrete GPU is never better for battery life. The 4530 will take it down a notch (45 mins-1 hr is my guess, similar to the ATI 4570).

So the ATI gpu will use 45min more battery you are saying?

I know on the Studio 1555 adding an ATI 4570 gets about 1 hour less battery life. The ATI 4530 I would expect to be similar.

Its hard to say exactly since we are talking about a different notebook here, but I would expect pretty much the same result. Usually, at least 30 minutes- 1 hour can be expected by eliminating the GPU

A GPU will always eat more than an IGP, it is a separated piece of software, so it requires more energy, while the IGP is using the MOBO energy.

I dont know if 1 hour, but the GPU will chop down battery life.
