As same as 15.4-inch 1520 and 17-inch 1720 Inspiron notebooks, the 1420 is built on Intel “Santa Rosa” notebook platform supporting the new Core 2 Duo processors with 800MHz front side bus and clock speeds ranging from 1.5GHz to 2.2GHz. Along with T7100, T7300, and T7500 Core 2 Duo CPUs there are two new budget models: the T5450, and the T5250. Dell Inspiron 1420 will be also configurable with the “Santa Rosa” compatible Celeron M processor.
The 1420 notebook models have Intel GM965 chipset with integrated GMA X3100 graphics or PM965 chipset paired with NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS 128 MB dedicated video card. These graphics solutions empower laptop’s 14.1-inch widescreen display with 1280×800 or 1440×900 screen resolution, depending on configuration. The first Dell Inspiron 1420 laptops will have up to 4GB of main memory and SATA hard drive, while the 8GB memory and hybrid hard drive options will come later. It was not published which types of optical drives will be used in the 1420.
This laptop provides a wireless LAN connection with an optional support for 802.11n draft Wi-Fi standard, Gigabit Ethernet, a 56K modem and optional Bluetooth. There will be also wireless broadband options for various provider networks.
The 1420 has an optional built in web camera, four USB ports, ExpressCard slot and Firewire, as well as VGA and S-Video outputs.
Dell Inspiron 1420 has a new chassis design, when compared to previous 1405 model. It weighs 5.5 lbs with 6-cell battery.
Currently there is no information on its pricing, availability, and operating system options. The earlier reports say the “Santa Rosa”-based Inspiron lineup will be launched during June and July.
