    Dell E1505 Review

    I am thankful this site - that i read many reviews before decided to purchase my E1505.

    As reviews on our website says - this notebook offers almost everything, but nothing radical. And that is true.

    I have had this notebook for a little over 3 weeks. By design, I waited for 3 weeks to write a review. Here's my config
    1GB RAM
    1.66 GHz processors.
    100 GB Disk
    Intel graphics card
    Dell wireless card.



    LCD screen : very good. I have matte finish which does not act as a mirror. My suggestion, go with this one and not the one that reflects everything behind you.

    So far, 1GB RAM has seemed enough for me and I have done a lot of video conversions. I have an AMD 3500+ desktop, and I have compared the performance. Laptop is certainly faster.

    Though 100 GB appears big, I don't think it is, given that in the multimedia age we live in, it can get used up very fast. However, for a laptop, this should be enough, at least for a couple more years.

    Last but not least : DELL SUPPORT:
    Ever since I've owned this notebook, I've had hard time connecting to home wireless. I shouldn't probably say 'hard time', but it's just that it wouldn't connect automatically, and I would have to start the 'wireless zero config' services manually and then do a few more things before it did connect to wireless. I knew it was unusual, since most of laptops I know connect easily, and that going into Windows Servieces and starting the service manually seemed unnatural tome. So I called Dell support. The gentelman said it was a software problem, and that I needed to pay for the services if I needed any more help. This was totally uncalled for. I tried to convince him that I am used to using wireless computers for some time, and the issue seemed hardware related, but he wouldn't budge. Infact, he wouldn't even try to troubleshoot. That was tragic. I bought my previous personal PC from Dell in 2000, and when I had a problem I got a very prompt and useful service. But that seems to have waned lately.
    I am now going to reinstall everything and see if it helps.


    Other things:
    Keyboard : appears good quality. You'll probably need to clean it from time to time.
    Mousepad : mousepad is somewhat of concern to me, in that the right/left buttons do certainly seem to go away with in a year or two, mostly likely the next day your warranty expires.


    But overall, I am reasonably happy with the product. Even if mousepad/mouse buttons go bad after a while, I hope I'll be able to use a USB mouse. But, for the price - and inspite of notorious customer service, you could still rely on this machine to work for you for some time.
