<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-06-17T17:15:40 -->Not that anybody who keeps on top of laptop rumors will be surprised to know, but it's now somewhat more "official" that the Dell XPS M1330 and Inspiron 1420, 1520 and 1720 laptops will be hitting the market in the next couple of weeks.

That Dell M1330 does look quite nice and very sleek package overall... but what is with the 'consumer' range styling? Dell somehow contrive to actually create uglier designs with each generation. That is truly astonishing and I salute them in that respect
-
A new AMD-based 17" Inspiron is showing up soon? Sweet.
Hey HP, are you listening? -
The graphics card for the Dell Inspiron 1520 is amazing (3DMark05 score of about 6000)! If it is less than $1500... I'm your next customer, Dell! Plus the new media reader and the webcam and the UXGA resolution and the sweet new design!

Wow, I'm even more impressed on the specs of the Dell Inspiron 1420.
It has a GPU of 8400m! Very impressive!
I really like the specs of these upcoming Inspiron Lines, hopefully it might bring up their sales to retake the no.1 spot.
However, the XPS m1330 looks strikingly similar to Sony's styling of notebooks, Ie. Sony SZ models I believe. -
They also redesigned the interior and the exterior of the Inspiron line:

Hope the Dell Coupons will work on these! ^_^

wow 8600m gt for 1520...
-
Why cant Dell (who creates great looking desktops and monitors) design a good looking laptop?

I agree they look like last generation's Toshibas and they aren't fantastic looking, it is still a step up from the old white bumper clad Dells however. The specs and the screen options look great on these models. The 1520 and 1420 are well enough, enough to make me think about upgrading to one of those two models before the end of summer... but they are new models so I can't be sure if Dell prices will cooperate. I can't wait to see a review. I will be interested to see what the build on these is like and it will be nice to see real pictures of the new inspirons to or to maybe even see them in person at the Dell kiosks in the local mall.
-
I don't think Dell quite understood the 'get rid of the white bumpers' comments...it kind of looks like they just took out the bumper and made the laptop all look like one big shiny frisbee. I mean, don't get me wrong this is a step in the right direction...but this doesn't quite match up to what HP has in terms of looks.
Now, the M1330 is downright an exception to the rule...it looks really really nice. -
Kind of plain...but look at those specs! O_O Who needs Sony/HP styling when you can get a notebook that will run circles around em while being homely enough that no1 will want to steal it?! There'd better be massive coupons! Last time I bought a Dell I got $1100 off and I expect the same this time around.
-
-
All these new models seem interesting however I cant help but notice that when the M1210 is replaced by the new 1330 that means that Dell will have no consumer models in the 12.1 inch range. Is the 12 inch screen market no longer profitable?
-
-
M1330 really look nice, that will kill the overprice Sony SZ lol....
-
As long as it is priced 5-15% lower than the SZ (and I'm sure that what Dell is thinking), then it will probably be a Sony-killer.
-
even it's the same price as the SZ it's a sony-killer.
I can't wait for the 12.1 inch Dell Tablet to come out... now that... is exciting!!!

What about the Ubuntu-friendly versions?
Although, if the new machines use nvidia and Intel parts exclusively then each should run Linux pretty smoothly.
Seems like everybody is switching to Intel and nVidia - AMD/ATI is in serious trouble! -
Hmm, the specs on that M1330 look VERY close to what I'm looking for. I hope the battery life is acceptable!
-
My God, nobody noticed the 17'''s have a numberpad?!?!? thats crazy for Dell! Finally.
-
All I can say is "Yay!"
M1420 on the way for me! -
Nice.. the fact that they offer a uxga screen and a 8600gt puts it ahead of the hp dv6500t
-
This inspiron line has awesome specs.. but sheesh, the looks just aren't there. Is it me or do they look a bit bulky?
As for the 1330, so far it looks real nice. If i could afford it, and if they put an 8400m GS or higher on it, it'd be mine. -

The WideUXGA and 8600M-GT are two really great options on the 1520.
I can't wait to see the pricing for these notebooks, especially the M1330. -
They have a new keyboard layout ... I like the current dell keyboard style when the insert/home/pgup/pgdn/del/end in the upper right
-
Metamorphical Good computer user
I didn't notice that before. Wow, that is a little dissapointing. I consider the current layout with those buttons on the top left to be one of best.
-
Well it's about time they returned to 15" WUXGA+ screens. As for bulkiness - I doubt that they're going to be any bulkier than other manufacturers' notebooks. For example, HP and Sony notebooks look very slim and stylish, but the reality is that they're ginormous compared to what you'd expect from looking at the pictures. The C, FZ, AR, non-premium SZ and DV6500 are perfect examples and, from the specs, the CR doesn't look much better.
-
The 1420 are OK.
The 1330 is hot! 300 nit brightness? WOW
I might have to put my purchase on D630 on hold. -
the Dell Inspiron 1520 looks like it has some features that the laptop i want to get, the Sager NP2090, has. and i know dell sometimes releases those $300 or $500 off coupon codes which could make it a good deal. Should I wait for the new Dell Inspirons to come out or just consider the NP2090?
-
Built-in WWAN on Dell's consumer grade laptops, finally...before that, only Sony offers WWAN on consumer based laptops. Hopefully this will drive more and more laptops with built-in WWAN, and consequently the price on the WWAN service will become cheaper.
-
M1330, you are mine.
-
Any one else diapointed that there is no news on the XPS M1710's successor? Maybe its just me.
-
Yeah Im interested in what XPS models are going to be coming out. Theyll probably have the 8800 card.
I really like the 1330, wow...its really amazing. i dont understand why they cant put some of that into the inspiron line. -
My hunch is the E1720 is going to be the leader for a while. Once the 8700 and/or 8800 comes out, then we might see an XPS 17". Or we might see something entirely different.
-
if they put some of that into the inspiron line then who would buy the xps line. if they made the inspiron line too attractive then the xps line wouldnt look as good in comparison.
-
R all these models come with LED or only M1330 come with LED?
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake

Did anyone else look at the pics at:
http://www.engadget.com/photos/pics-and-specs-of-dells-new-inspirons-1/
I would have gone for a 1420, but unless I'm not seeing correctly, there is no docking port connection.... hence no traditional docking station offered for any of the models. Thats a deal killer for me. -

-
I love Dell but the new Inspirons look so crappy
Josh -
1. the keyboard looks cheap and has a horrible layout (now another brand bites the dust without DEL-END-PGDN dedicated block keys), HP f&^ed its with new 65xx and 67xx notebooks line (even worse in HP - borrowing those cheap keys from Pavilion))
2. thick as a brick (a great album by Jethro Tull, I think Dell likes good music
3. too many ins/outs, openings, ventilations etc etc...by any means clean design, its really -all bundled in- without any thought or 'feeling that it would last more than a year'.
4. NO STYLE, absolutely no style...its still hospitality white inside (I don't like those cheaply made HP Pavilion, but its style is at least from this century).
bla bla bla, another rant, so why are you reading me?
I 'lost' HP notebooks (I own excellent nx7400 which can't compare to fc*&ed HP 65xx and 67xx keyboards) now I 'lost' DELL Inspirons...not a bright future in notebooks line for a person who needs to write a lot. And Lenovo will never offer a decent graphics card without buying you a new car instead (with money it'll cost). -
I'm really interested in the Dell M1330 as well. Will it come with an international warranty?
-

Why are companies so secretive about release dates for products even after they are officially announced?
I contacted Dell UK via their online chat and was told explicitly that there were no planned upgrades to Centrino Pro for their existing line of products.
Well they've lost a possible sale from me. If they had simply told me if the new dell notebooks would be available before my uni course starts as I had asked; I would have considered them. -

If only the M1330 was available two months ago, and the price was right, it may have beat out the T60 I chose....
-
Well, your T60 is a good notebook that will last u couple of years. So, enjoy it

Looking at this, there are way too many connections on the side. I like to place my laptop vertically (better screen size for programming) and this is a show stopper.
