(Mods I didn't know where to put this dell forum, or news forum..)

I just noticed that @ dell.com you can now buy the D420 with Core Duo
"Intel Core Duo Processor ULV U2500 (1.20GHz, 533Mhz)"

Not too fast, but better than the Core Solo...

Hard drive, not the CPU, is gonna be the performance killer.

Well any 4,200rpm drive is slow as ****....

However there are still cases where a Duo is needed, and harddrive speed may not be needed.

The D420 uses not just a regular 4,200RPM drive, but a 1.8" one at that . . slowest drives you can buy.

Yeah, the Core Duo will help. I have a Core Solo D420 right now with a review on the way, I'm hoping Dell will send me a Core Duo based unit so I can see exactly what the performance improvement is with the Duo. As has been said, the 4200RPM 1.8" drive is going to hurt with anything that's going to require accessing the hard drive.

My guys in the next week or so will be performing a series of PCMark, SysMark, WebMark, and MobileMark benchmarking on the D420 Core Duo U2500 1.2Ghz version. Let me know if you are interested in any of our results. So far, our initial testing shows minimal difference compared to the Dore Solo 1.06GHz...
