Agreed; screw Micro$oft, add a touchscreen, stick with Linux and sell at same price point or cheaper. The first one that does this will get my money.

Interesting thoughts - I liked reading everyone's comments.
I feel bad for retailers who still have surf Eee, 4GB, and 8GB units left: that $299 for a better screen, keyboard, and design is going to hurt. It may be worth buying the older Eees because that price will have to come down on retailers hard...if it sticks.
I agree with all "Where's Lenovo" waldo quests out there. I can't wait to see what they roll out.
And, if I were a university student still, this would be it: cheap netbook to fit on my trapezoid lecture desk and desktop-in-the-dorm combo. I think we're seeing a move into the multi-PC market.
And, if anyone out there follows this stuff with jkkmobile.blogspot.com or umpcportal.com, I agree that 10" is getting less portable. I like that dell is at 8.9" - for some reason, that size seems right for a netbook. For me, it's either the MSI or the Dell...unless...I'm looking at you, Lenovo. -

These new ultra-affordable notebooks are not only great for students, but for the traveling business person as well. Not all in corporate America have their notebooks given to them by their employer. Many, including myself, have to personally buy their own notebook for corporate use.
A small notebook like the Asus or the upcoming Dell, etc. is exactly what is needed. Most of us who spend days and weeks on the road don't need a super-powerful notebook, rather only a notebook to maintain e-mail communications, Excel and Word, and other low CPU-intensive tasks. I'd much rather carry around a small 2 lb. UMPC, than my relatively heavy ThinkPad. I don't know one colleague that uses his or her notebook while on the road to play games - the latest powerful CPU or the most powerful graphic chipset are simply not high priorities for the typical traveling business user.
Bring on the inexpensive, small notebooks. Just as smart phones basically killed off the PDA, the small notebook will be the next step in that direction. -
