I will be short but to the point.

My first laptop arrived and I claimed for a replacement. The lid did not close properly. The front latch did not lock properly. Also the white edge on top i.e. at the back side of the screen, was making a weird click sound and had a gap!!

Fine. I have claimed for a replacement and the new laptop will be shipped soon. I am fiddling with this one till it arrives.

    My configuration

Intel T2300 Centrino Duo processor, 1 GB RAM, Trulife Screen, ATI X1300 128MB graphic adapter, 7200 RPM hard disk of size 60GB and rest everything is default.

I have to say that if you are looking for a laptop which should perform and feel fast, this is the configuration to go for. It fits under one thousand U.S. dollars.

Multitasking on normal levels should not be a problem at all. The processor combo takes care of it. But remove the bloatware by DELL. If you want and if you can, install a fresh new copy of XP professional getting rid of all those backup and what not disk space DELL reserves. Can someone give me one example where they actually opted for something other than formatting when it crashes? :)

Screen is really nice though it has a glare. So background should not have any bright lights. Colors are vivid and crisp.

the keyboard is very tactile and one can type really fast...but if you are keeping the laptop on your lap and trying to type..your finger can stick up to keys like J when you shift from the bottom letter line i.e. where N is. Girls with fingernails, beware.

The mouse touch pad is decent. The buttons could be in the front.

The front volume control is really handy.

The loudspeaker location is WRONG! the sound is muffled when you place your palms to type on it.

All the ports are located quite okay. They perform their job. Card reader is a good thing.

Overall a good beginners and intermediate laptop user's choice.

The hard disk of that RPM heats up.
