When it comes to laptop cases there are quite a lot of choices out there these days. I've went through my share of sleeves but I find them not all that functional since they only protect from scratches, and provide virtually zero structural reinforcement. On top of that, with a sleeve you have to take the laptop out in order to use it, which can become a pain after a while.

then there are hardshell cases, full out brief cases, and business type (chime in targus like) bags. These usually are quite balky and not meant for people on the go.

    Enter the crumpler:

It is a clam shell design case, made of leather(?) wrapepd around fairly stiff paperboard or similar material for chasis. Overall it is quite rigid, and feels very secure and protective.

To be honest this was not my first choice, I originally purchased a 14" shinza, but my fat vaio did not fit in it. So I traded the shinza for the crumpler with a friend.

Oh oh, seems like the vaio might not fit in this one either
    [IMG]

    Close..

Whew, its a tight squeeze, but its in!

Excellent, laptop can be used without having to take it out of the case.

Yep, it is a keeper. Sticker of pride in place.

But will it fit in the bag?

    Sure will!

Overall I am quite happy with the School Hymn Crumpler. It feels solid and secure. Is very light, but quality made, and is quite compact compared to competition (exluding shinza cases however).

    Pros:
    +Great quality
    +Very durable
+Provides quick access to your laptop
    +Excellent color selection
+Smooth surface, so you can put a sticker on it :D
    +Fairly priced

    Cons:
-Umm, maybe a PCMCIA pocket would be nice
    -Cant think of anything else.

It looks cool. But I was wondering how safe it would be to run the laptop in the sleeve? I do not think there will be proper ventilation to cool the laptop.(may be okay for quick check of outlook email).

Well, I would not recommend doing a 14 hour warcraft3 lanparty in one, but I did use it for well over 2 hours while still in the case today. It was noticably warmer, but still far from hot.

/waay offtopic. I honestly dont get the whole obsession about temps. I've been overcloking my desktops since P100 days, and pushing enough voltage through them to deepfry a small mammal without any issues ever (that is a lie, there were many issues, but all due to human error or leaky pipes ;p). My fanless rig has been at 68C for over 2 years now. Computer equipment is much more robust than people give it credit for. And if you ever do get into the 80C's the BIOS will shut the system down faster than you can say "WOAH".
Most 'experts' say that hot running equipment can shorten in lifespan up to as much as a half in extreme cases. Considering average lifetime for PC equipment (mainly silicon, aka teh CPU) is 10 years, if you half it, that is still 5 years if on at 24/7. How much do 5 year old PC's go for these days? 40 bucks?

    /end rant
    :p

PS. I love the crumpler, but silver color.. ? booooooooring.

Aren't these only made for Apple ibooks? I went into crumpler and was going to get this for my Acer Laptop, but the dimensions were all different and my 15.4" laptop wouldn't even fit in the 17" case. So just a warning to people who are going to buy this online, make sure the dimensions on your laptop are good.

Oh I wish the 17" fit not just a PowerBook but my N6210... It comes in such pretty green and blue!!! :(

I found a bag that'll fit it without it sticking out, but I'll probably continue wrapping it in a towel when I take it out. Yes, I said it, towel. And when it's covered in a towel and sticks out of your bag, it's not a pretty sight.
