Consumers and businesses have a wide variety of options when it comes to aftermarket storage upgrades. The traditional 2.5-inch form factor solid state drive (SSD) is arguably still the dominant aftermarket upgrade for notebook PCs and Crucial has just expanded its line of MX300 SSDs to try and capture a larger piece of that market.

The previously released Crucial MX300 was the first Crucial SSD to feature Micron's new 3D TLC NAND which delivers significant improvements to cell endurance and cell density while reducing the cost per GB of storage. Some critics point out that Crucial is a little late to the 3D NAND market; Samsung was the first company to release SSDs with 3D NAND flash (or V-NAND as Samsung calls it) back in 2014 with the Samsung 850 Pro. In fact, the earlier release of the MX300 were limited to 750GB but Crucial is now shipping this SSD in capacities of 275GB, 525GB, 750GB and 1TB (1050GB). Crucial will also ship the MX300 in a 2TB capacity later this year.
