Memory maker Corsair should soon be entering the Solid State Disk (SSD) market. One of its first drives is the 2.5-inch S128, which has a 128GB capacity; read and write speeds are unknown. The drives supposedly use Samsung NAND flash memory and a Samsung controller.

On sale now for $399 CAN at NCIX.
Read/Write speeds are slower than other SSD's but if it doesn't stutter, it would make a decent replacement OS drive given the price and capacity. -

I didn't include this in my news article, but in the HEXUS article I referenced, they said Corsair would be coming out with an enthusiast line later this year with 200MB/s+ read and write speeds. There's talk of 400MB/s later on.

Wow they only started on SSD now? There quite a bit behind but they have hardware experience so they should be pretty good.

about time, rumors say that Intel is working on the 320Gb version already.

Better to come into the game late with the right products than early with the bad products. Look at how negatively OCZ has appeared by coming in with cheap SSD's that use a cheap, underperforming controller.

Good. Their initial offer may not be impressive, but the more serious players enter the market, the more difficult it gets to keep prices up.

Indeed. Its about time it became competive to stamp out the outdated mechanical drives. A high performance, cheap an reliable SSD is what everybody should have for today's generation of computers.

This time next year, perhaps they will be more mass used, as oppose to merely being premium item...

Eventually, I will want to upgrade my laptop to an SSD and possibly my desktop, but until the GB per dollar comes even remotely close to hard drives, they're out of the picture for me. I just can't see spending $300 - $400 for only 128GB of storage.

Hopefully competition starts bringing down prices.
