CompuTex 2008 has shown us quite a few notebooks, many of which are not even released. In this last roundup, we have four new AMD Puma platform notebooksfrom HP, Toshiba, and Acer. Details were limited since they are notofficially releasednotebooks, but this does give us a good glimpse of what should be out in the coming weeks or months.
(view large image)Above you can see matte black AMD Puma-based notebook that was on display at Computex, the HP 6535us. It resembles a Compaq v6500from HP's current lineup at first glance, but a closer look reveals a thinner design and updated styling cues.

(view large image)This notebook has four USB ports, an ExpressCard slot, Ethernet, and VGA-out visible on the sides. This particular machine has the following specifications:
- 15.4-inch WXGA glossy display
- AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM-80 2.1GHz processor
- 2GB RAM
- Windows Vista Business 32-bit w/ SP1
Unnamed Toshiba Notebook
(view large image)The above notebook is a Puma-based Toshibamachine with a 13.3-inch display. It has similar styling to the current Satellite U405.

(view large image)While it lacks a name, Toshiba was kind enough to put a sticker on the bottom of it with specifications:
- 13.3-inch WXGA TFT display
- AMD Turion X2 ZM-84 2.3GHz
- 2GB RAM
- DVD Super Multi drive
- 320GB SATA hard drive

Acer TravelMate 5530
(view large image)Acer had a Puma-based notebook on display as well, the TravelMate 5530. It does not have any radical design changes from what you will find on the market today from the Acer TravelMate series.

Again, no official announcements were made behind these notebookswe ran into on the show floor, but you can expect product release announcements to start flowing soon. For instance, rumor has it HP will be unleashing a hailstorm of notebooks this week...

That HP looks nice!, the Toshiba isn't bad either.
-
HP looks nice but the power jack seems to be at the wrong place. (In the middle of the side??)
-
Yea, that hp power jack placement is really odd.
I wonder if any of these have the new external graphics hardware. -
I like the design of those laptops but I really hope they'll be considerably cheaper than a comparable Intel-equipped laptop.
-
where is the external graphics card connection port they promised...PCI Express 2.0!!!

-
hmmm. so far so good, now lets see the benchmarks!!!
-
I am very interested in how these new Puma processors perform compared to something like a C2D T7700. -
-
Don't see no XGP connectors...
-
The HP Compaq 6535s looks like a rebadged version of the soon-to-released Compaq Presario CQ50. HP had an interactive demo of the CQ50, but it looks like they removed it
There will also be a 17" CQ70 and a 14.1" CQ40, along with the HP pavilion dv4 (14.1"), dv5 (15.4") and dv7 (17") models. -
That Toshiba has about a one-inch-wide spacebar. What are all those extra keys on the lowest row?
-
-
-
amd said that the OEM will decide on putting an xgp port on their puma notebooks i wouldn't be surprised if XGP goes the same way as MXM= Availability in only a few notebooks.

XGP is for adding external graphics cards, mostly, you can do more with it. Fujitsu has a Puma notebook with one.
-
You wouldn't be able to indulge us with any more details of such a Fujitsu notebook would you?
