Clevo D900F notebook to feature Core i7, X58, Nvidia G280
    [IMG]
An upcoming Clevo desktop replacement notebook, coming in May, will feature an Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia G280 graphics card. The 11.9-pound behemoth is based on the Intel X58 chipset and can do RAID 0/1/5 with three hard drives. The G280 video card will have 1GB of video memory and the machine can support up to 8GB of DDR3-1066/1333 memory. A 220W power brick is necessary to support the D900F.

you might want to know that "Launch Date" does NOT mean the date that it can be ordered.

"Launch Date" means that it will be debuted to the public... usually at an expo or electronics show like CES or CeBIT.

it usually takes about half a year or so (from past Clevo launches) before the system becomes available for orders.

So I am sure that the D900F wont be available for purchase until Q4 2009.

Funny I hear this news just hours after I just built my first gaming desktop PC. At least its a lot cheaper than this bad boys gonna be and already available. :)

It'll even use a desktop GPU? I wouldn't mind its size and weight as long as it is luggable. This looks to truly be a desktop replacement and some wouldn't mind paying the premium for a notebook with desktop power. :D

its not going to be a desktop card.

its definitely a mobile version of the G280.

Isn't Q4 2009 when the mobile Nehalems come out? The desktop versions will almost certainly be somewhat faster, but this machine would be a lot more tempting if it was the only way to get one's hands on the new architecture in a laptop half a year earlier than everyone else.

    that may be true.

but desktop CPUs are usually better priced since they will mature earlier as well as having more quantities at hand.

I wonder how much slower the extra 4 logical cores, compare to having 4 physical cores instead. Any way to tell from previous hyperthreading experience?

In that case, Eurocoms announcement; ' D900F Shipping Date: May 1, 2009' is highly unlikely/bollocks.

Also, Core i7 is bloomsfield, so the TDP is going to be 130W? Wow.

not too surprised with the TDP.

the AMD FX-60 in my Clevo D900K has a TDP of 110w.

some are using the Intel Qx9650 in their Clevo D901C, which has 130w TDP.

Clevo has been using desktop CPUs in their systems for a long time, probably long than other notebook ODMs.

I'm curious about the GPU memory type, even the desktop GTX 285 (the latest from nVidia) doesn't even use GDDR5!

I believe there was talks and some confirmations on the use of GDDR5 on the desktop GTX 280's later this year when there is to be a die-shrink.

The GTX 285 IS the die shrink of the GTX 280.
