<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-03-15T23:27:08 -->Samsung was showing off a new gaming notebook of theirs slated to come out in a few months. The Samsung M60 will sport NVidia 8000M graphics (DX10 compatible), a Blu-Ray drive and the latest Intel Santa Rosa chipset. It looks pretty hot too!

Samsung M60 specs (view large image)I took a screen shot of the Windows Performance Index in Vista and the readout was pretty impressive:
(view large image)Notice it indicates the graphics card as being the NVidia NP8P-SE using 512MB of dedicated memory. Under the DirectX version, it indicates it as being "DirectX 9.0 or better". It is better, it's DirectX 10. The M60 will use the Santa Rosa chipset from Intel and of course the latest Core 2 Duo series processor when they hit. Availability for this notebook should be in the May/June time frame.
Samsung doesn't usually run with the big boys when it comes to offering gaming notebooks, but this time they're one of the first to show off a next generation high-powered notebook. A new direction for Samsung maybe?

wow....thats one heck of a laptop....but i dont get the 8000M thing....is it an nvidia geforce go 8000 or something???????
anyone? -
Looks the be the DX10 equivalent of the 7400/X1400 or something.
-
I noticed from the picture of the windows experience index that the dedicated graphics memory is only 256mb, not 512mb. Why is that?
-
Maybe its turbocache?
-
It could be, but I thought that high end gpus don't use turbocache.
-
Lots of great CeBIT news...thanks, Andrew!

Metamorphical Good computer user

Introducing the all-new Samsungbook Pro.
-
What is cebit? Is it a european show?
Because samsung cant retail in north america for xx years but Im wondering if that has expired. -

The pic of the specs mention that it is indeed using turbocache so it only has 256MB dedicated not 512MB as the poster had indicated. It may or may not be a high end notebook GPU then?
-
I still do not understand. 8000M means that it supports up to... an 8600? 8800? I don't get which GPUs it can harbor.
Nice post by the way. -
no numberpad.....and the power button is on the right hm....guess the capabilities of the laptop will more than make up for it?
and btw is it using and ssd cuz the low capacity indicates something of that sort? -

For those who can read a little German, there are details of more new Samsung models (Q40, Q45, R20 & R70) on the Samsung Germany website. Go to the bottom right corner and a list in English will pop up. Choose your category and I will leave you to guess which the specs are. The R70 is 15.4" and also has Nvidia 8000 series graphics (but so does the 12.1" Q45).

L ike the looks of the M60. I hope that 8000M is powerful enough.

I'm still trying to figure out who decided that a white-ish colored notebook with a black keyboard was the look found desirable? It makes the keyboards stick out like a sore thumb sort of pulling the viewer back into a "it's a notebook" mindset rather then ogling over everything else.
I miss the older systems that had a very uniform look to them inside / outside. I understand the chassis are kinda growing again for the gaming systems, but they end up looking like lap-desks with an embedded keyboard (Do people use the oversize wrist area for writing checks or homework?)
Note:
The last system I really liked the design of was my Dell Inspiron 8100. Which I still have sitting my closet just incase -
I know some people like black keys with white letters because they find them easier to read, so that might be why they still use that while still having a lighter colored laptop overall.
-
I don't so much care about what color it is.. but I like a more uniform look. I can't tell you the last time I've actually had to look at any keyboard to tell what keys I'm pressing.

Looks quite nice. Blu-ray (man I feel sorry for people who choose now before dual-format drives are in notebooks). Santa Rosa. Is the GPU all powerful or is it DX10 version of a mid-level card?
-
Hey Andrew do you know if Samsung will offer the m60 without the Blu-Ray Drive? Cuz I don't wanna pay $200 extra dollars for something I'll never use
-
I think this is a low end 8xxx card with DX10 support. Anyone notice the 4.6 gaming score? This is not good since even my ageing MR x700 can score 4.3.
