<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-03-17T10:44:05 -->At CeBIT 2007 I saw a lot of handshakes going on at the Clevo booth. Those handshakes were exchanged between Clevo and the companies scrambling to sign contracts to sell the D900C and M570RU NVidia 8800 powered notebooks as their own.
Clevo M570RU
The M570RU will be using the next generation Mobile chipset from Intel -- Santa Rosa. It will feature NVidia Go 8800 graphics when the card eventually gets to market. At CeBIT Clevo was demoing the M570RU unit with an NVidia Go 7950GTX card. You can look at the specs and see they'll soon be offering a DirectX 10 card though -- Clevo reps at the show confirmed it would be the 8800 card.
(view large image)The M570RU is quite a looker actually. It's a 17" widescreen display (WXGA) that has a glossy finish. I really liked the orange trim of the notebook though, it really offset the notebook's look well.
(view large image)The M570RU will offer a sub woofer and SRS 3D sound via the two speakers built-in. It will also offer 802.11n wireless since it uses the latest Intel wireless chipset.

We covered the D900C in an earlier article, there was some controversy as to whether it would have the NVidia Go 7950GTX card or the next generation NVidia 8800 graphics card. Clevo reps confirmed that at the moment it is using the 7950GTX card, but that it will come equipped with the DirectX 10 compatible 8800 card as soon as it is released. Graphics should be upgradeable as well since it's using MXM technology.
(view large image)The D900C differs from the M570RU in that it uses the Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme desktop chipset -- not a mobile chipset and processor. This is a bold move on the part of Clevo and will make the D900C the most powerful notebook in the market, at the cost of being one of the hottest and most power hungry as well.

D900C left side view (view large image)
D900C right side view (view large image)The design of the D900C is a little more plain than the M570RU unit, but other notebook sellers will be changing the design to their own liking, so don't expect to see it always sold in this all black look you see in the pictures.
(view large image)The Windows Vista Performance Index rated the graphics at 5.9 and processor performance at 4.9, some rather high scores that will get even better with a higher clocked CPU and the newer NVidia graphics card when they're inside this system.
(view large image)Opening up 3DMark revealed that the notebook on display is using NVidia Go 7950GTX graphics, but according to Clevo this will change to 8800 in time.

I really like the looks of the M570RU, the black and orange is quite a change from the current M570U's silver.
Great post. -
hrmmm....i think i prefer the old design, though...
-
I can't wait! the orange looks great.
-
-
I thought Clevo's didn't have a 'direct' MXM, only one thats 'like' MXM.
-
Yes, I approve of the orange as well. Makes the laptop look quite stylish and unique in the subtle way that I prefer
-
The choice between both of these systems is difficult for more then just colors!
To SLI, or not to SLI... that is the question
or or.... RAID 0 and SLI! *ponder's in his cave* -
the idea of the orange accent stripe is really neat.
But it is sad to see they are persisiting in keeping the mic, speaker and whatever other jacks in front under the mouse pad. That location is one I do not care for because I tend to rest my thumb on anything plugged into those jacks. Over time that has to have the potential to damage the jack or even the cable. Plus they can be hard to access when sitting in a chair and resting the system on a lap-table sort of thingy. Would that location not be perfect for Apple's magnetic connector deal?
Nice looking system otherwise. -
The M570RU looks really good. Can't wait for some benchmarks of the 8800.
-
Nice find, I was about to post the spec list for the M570RU, but was hesitant from the recent backlash with my Clevo D900C post.
I'll make sure to keep things to myself now I guess, don't want to look like an (insert donkey's alternative name) again.
I guess my unknown identity and affiliations makes me seem like an easy target for arguments... compared to someone with a known identity and rep.
It's all good... I guess... less work for me.
Clevo FTW!

P.S. I just wanted to say, "I told ya so" [Clevo w/ 8800 reference] .... LOL. -
why nobody mentioned THE WXGA SCREEN????? Whats the point of having an 8800 card with a WXGA screen?? Why not at least WSXGA????? ARGHHHHH clevo you ruined a perfect laptop
-
They didnt ruin it, they will have 3 LCD options like in their other 17" notebook models.
- WXGA+
- WSXGA+
- WUXGA -
Ohhh okok i was just afraid that they only have the WXGA screen. And if you check the brochure of this laptop, its written WXGA not WXGA+!! Its 1200*800 not 1440*900!!! Im buying an m570u very2 soon however anybody think i should wait for this since there is no estimated release date? do you think i can upgrade my m570u to a 8800 card? If its possible i see no reason to wait for the m570ru
-
ooooh man. I pulled the trigger on the M570U way too soon. That RU is too damn sexy. My 30-day money back guarantee never looked so good.
If it's MXM, what do we think the chances are of an 8xxx series part being available for the M570U? -
Headphone jack placement leaves much to be desired, especially on a desktop replacement system

Since the 8800 will take so much more power, and require a stronger thermal solution, it is very doubtful that a M570U can hold it.
New stuff coming out all the time...no matter when or what you buy. Waiting until the next one only causes you to wait yet again...and again...
So, the best thing to do is pull the trigger when you want to and know that you will upgrade again to the best thing available at that time.
Simply adopt a mind set of "No Regrets" -
very misleading title (there's no 8800), i did not digg this article
hopefully there's an option to get rid of that tacky carbon fiber -
Metamorphical Good computer user
I dig the carbon fiber trim around the touchpad and the keyboard thats hit. Totally different look for a clevo, however the coloring does remind me a bit of the little old Sony C series. Dark with orange trim, which is a very cool look.

You know as well as I do that platform changes aren't as frequent as add-in components and if it's looking like the existing platform has reached it's maximum lifespan from an upgrade standpoint, then it's already reached the end of it's market viability (in the enthusiast sector). That's my only concern, because quite frankly, there is nothing else to upgrade on my 570u but video (the CPU could be faster, i suppose, but not significantly so).
So, here's to crossing fingers that an 8x series card will be released with 7950gtx voltage requirements! -
any word on 15.4" or 14" models from Clevo? I really think they suffered last year by not releasing any 15.4 and 14" models with gpus, while their rivals in the whitebook business (AsMobile, MSI and Compal) certainly benefitted.

And BOY do they know it !!

Hmmm ....
667 FSB with Santa Rosa ?
1200X800 for 17"er ? -
im confused about the 1200*800 too...
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Go back and read post #13...you won't be confused anymore.
And, of course Santa Rosa is not 667MHz, but then Santa Rosa has not been released yet has it. -
Since Santa Rosa ups the FSB to 800MHz won't RAM cost more? Because it'll be more powerful so to upgrade to 800MHz RAM will cost more money. Will you be able to use 667MHz RAM with Santa Rosa? And I wonder if the 8800 will be the only DX10 card that can play Crysis, I hope the 8600 can play it too...

THE D900C IS OUT!!!!!!
http://secure.hypersonic-pc.com/scripts/custom_sys.aspx?sysid=Aviator_EQ7
Wow thats fast!! Too bad no 8800 -
While I'm looking for DTR like the new M570U ( nice! ) the D900C broke the fine balance of weight / power by using desktop parts .
I'm all for unique models and ideas like the Benq Joybook 7000 , the 1st 14" wide screener ( "will that catch on ?" ) .
Looking forward for more Clevo models .
Btw : I too think the jacks should be on the side ( uncomfortable when you place it on your lap , risk of stress ) , the front should have a usefull media panel . -
Orange looks nice. Front ports are bad, tho'. Had them there on my 8790 and hated it.
Desktop CPU, eh? Can't imagine that it'd be worse than a P4! -

Actually, the salesman at CeBIT got in trouble for making that comment. He was only guessing and didn't really know what he was talking about.
At this time there is no timetable for the 88xx card, and until they can get it to work...or maybe it is IF they can get it to work, it won't be released.
A May time frame however is not only optimistic, it is flat not true. It will be several months at the very least...and at this time there is no assurance that it will ever happen.
Now, that information should be worth a dollar -
I'd buy THAT for a dollar! -
I've been thinking about ordering a barebones M570U from RJTech but have been in a holding pattern until details on the Santa Rosa refresh were available.
The M570U is a great design, fairly sleek (considering its power and 17" display) and the understated styling is appropriate for professional or personal use. I was hoping the Santa Rosa revision would leave well enough alone, but add the features of the new chipset and a DX10 video solution (or at least a standardized GPU socket so a field upgrade could be performed without swapping or modifying the mainboard).
But seeing these pictures of the M570RU, I'm really disappointed. Clevo has morphed this classy notebook into a fake carbon fiber and orange gamer's machine. Fine for LAN parties, but totally obnoxious at business meetings. And what were they thinking moving the jacks to the front, while at the same time eliminating the AV controls and useful LED display ? I will say the fingerprint scanner is a nice addition and something I had wished the M570U included.
From what I'm reading it sounds like a DX10 card is a long way off. I'm tempted to just go ahead and order my barebones M570U (with glossy SXVGA+, 2GB RAM, T7200 Core 2 Duo, Seagate 7200rpm 100gb SATA drive, Intel wireless) although I know later this year, when Crysis is out and I want a DX10 card, either I'll be stuck with no upgrade option or have to pay a fortune to get a DX10 GPU that may not be as fast as the 7950GTX. -
how much do you think it'll cost as a barebone?
-
My worst fear has been confirmed. They removed the AudioDJ panel.
Why is Clevo killing it off? First they killed it on their 15.4" models, now their 17" models..... -
God, I hope it comes with a WUXGA too.
