At CES 2007 Windows Vista is being trumpeted everwhere. Part of the new Vista features related to notebooks and Tablet PCs is a technology called SideShow that allows for an external display on your machine to read out information such as email inbox status, IMs, battery level, wireless point range and so on. Here's a look at a few of the laptops we've seen with this.

I wonder if this Vista SlideShow would just be a dummy display if one were to only run Linux...is it part of the Vista partition or on a separate one (like Dell's Media Direct)?

When I first saw the Asus W5Fe pictures, I didn't like the "bump". But now that I see it's not going to be the norm, I'm a bit relieved. Don't know if I really need one on my next notebook though--so I may opt to not get one if the price is high.

I like where the Toshiba one is located :).

    Changed to Toshiba ;).

I've had an external LCD display on my laptop for some time now:

It displays all the status lights for my notebook, and it will tell me when I have a new email too. :) AND, I've had it on my notebook for over a year. The Sager NP5320 (Clevo M560A) came out in October of last year.

Anyway - I really like the idea of SideShow; at this point, I plan to have it on my next notebook. The full external LCD display is intriguing.

The Sager NP5750/5760 (Clevo M570U) also has one:

next laptop will def have a sideshow capable ext. display and win vista.

i like Asus but will go with whichever lappy has the most features for best price and looks with the ext. display

also the size of the ext. display will factor in as well. Of these which was the largest? or are they all around the same size?

thats interesting about the Sager having already had it. i guess it just doesn't give as much info as a vista sideshow capable one but still pretty cool. would be great if it was vista sideshow capable and in the meantime you were using it for basic info.

When are any of these models coming out with vista pre installed?

in meantime i'm trying to get Vista for my v6j notebook and the stupid site wont get past the name and serial # info

ya the toshiba one seems just like whats called direct messenger on the g1 and g2

or um audio dj on a dell e1405. Only it looks more ghetto....

The asus one and the lg one look exactly the same

the fujitsu one doesnt show any function just the size.

I don't know... well lets just say I would not want to pay to much extra for one. Any one know how much this will add too the price of the base notebook with out the screen? And is there any protection for the screens, I mean those things are going to scratch really easily if there is not.
