<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2006-10-20T12:31:24 -->The trials and tribulations of "computer company" L International, formerly known as Liebermann Computers, is well documented on the internet as being bogus and never truly shipping products they claim to be making. They tend to make entertaining press releases about their latest product that might only be believed by gullible stock investors. In the latest press release they tout an upcoming Intel Quad core laptop with 24 hour battery life and keyboard that can change languages on the fly.
Here's a link to the press release that L International made for their latest "prototype" portable computer. The company claims to be nearing completion on a laptop with the following rather amazing specs:
- Based on Intel's Quad -Core Processors (not yet released, and when they are an Intel Quad Core processor will initially cost $1,000+)
- Featuring all-round PCI-Xpress bus architecture
- Keyboardless design. Instead of a keyboard it uses a large secondary full-color and fully programmable high-resolution touch screen OLED display that functions as the keyboard with the following features:
- Users can switch the keyboard to any language on the fly
- Users can adjust precision-controlling parameters such as keystroke key speed and pressure.
- Users can switch the displays instantly to gaming mode as virtual joysticks or any specific application such as music composition or video editing where the whole keyboard area can be programmed and called upon any specific application with customized controllers.
- The OLED-based virtual keyboard can be reconfigured as needed as a programmable high-resolution multi-function flat-panels.
- Next-generation PuRAM Solid State Drive Technology with largely improved in I/O and transfer speeds allied to record breaking low power consumption figures and extended long-term reliability (Flash Drives are currently only available in 16GB or 32GB capacity and cost $4,000 or so at such capacities)
- The laptop will use new power sources like hot-swappable fuel cell batteries based on both hydrogen or methanol designs, providing up to 24 hours of continuing power and indefinite runs without any need for direct electrical recharging. (no feasible technology exists for any $ amount for such batteries yet)
Obviously these specs are all ridiculous for any laptop that could be produced or sold for under $20,000 anytime in the next couple of years. Just a few months ago this company went by Go-L, they now go by L International and have changed names several times in the past. Earlier this year this site published an article about a 20" laptop by a company called Go-L / Liebermann computer that was fairly fanciful -- needless to say that notebook was never released or heard of again.
A 20" screen laptop Liebermann computer announced earlier in the year but was vaporware
This company has a bit of a history doing the same thing with announcing products that don't exist. Witness articles on the Register.com, eZineArticles.com, plex.us, Engadget.com, and discussion from NotebookForums.com. There is also discussion regarding L International in our own forums here. Buyers and stock investors beware, but we look forward to future amusing press releases about space age laptop computers with SLI graphics, multi-core processors and 24 hour battery life. Feel free to visit their amusing website here.

No warp drive?
* dissapointed* -
with fuel cells, I'd expect at least a week of battery time with CPU at full load. I just feel bad for some of the people who aren't as tech savvy out there that actually buy into this load of crap. you'd think if they were gonna make something up, at least make up something believable and not with technologies that don't even exist.
-
Wow, does anybody know when that will come to the US?
LOL
-
Wow, those specs are even crazier than their last "system". I'm surprised that they keep trying the same scam.
-
Amazing computers, amazing!
-
When they get that into a 10.6" or 11.1" ultraportable, then I'm sold!!!!
-
They'll announce it next week.
-
Mine's already on pre-order!
Folks will be so jealous seeing me fill up my car and laptop at the same time at my local petrol station. Fantabulous -
What a joke! They sure do like their .gif animation. Also the l-computer.com link is broken when you click "here."

After reading Andrew & others waxing prose, I could not add anything to what he said, but made just a few cuts (+2 cut/paste). Thus I was able to get a 24" WXZY+ pre-production model, sometimes called an Engineering Sample. I was very impressed by this machine, especially running SETI@home calculations. It completed most of the assigned work projects in just under 40 seconds. Currently Arecibo is reevaluating the need to build more radio telescopes as the 3 1/2 year backlog of incoming signals existing on 12 Oct has been completely interpreted. Enthusiastic users were able to modify the Vaporware model with a solar panel on the lid extending the full cell battery life beyond 24 hours @ full load while making it useable underwater at depths less than 32 feet. Some users in the SouthWest Pacific reported via DSL Hotline that their testing was safe even @ 100 feet down. Requests for smaller screens have been rejected due tendencies of those models to literally float on the surface and subject to repeated feeding attempts by the endangered Royal Bush Albatross

Sigh -- I guess college hi-jinks are good once in a while.
If these 'press releases' come out on April 1st, they may be good for a laugh, otherwise they should be ignored. -
This laptop DOES exist, just like the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Vampires, and Eskimos...
(No offense intended towards any native Alaskains, just a modified quote from the Simpsons) -
If the company seems to never produce the laptops it advertises, then is seems like the company just wants to attract attention and does not have the financial resources to actually produce any "very high end" laptops.
That laptop is never going to be on the market...
BTW, do Intel even have any INITIAL plans to produce a Quad Core Mobile CPU?
I think L International are getting a little "carried away"...they have revealed their plans a little too early.... -
Metamorphical Good computer user
Wow... they left out a spec. What it supposed to run Vista or cook Bacon?
-
The computers that are able to be "purchased" from the store are really lame anyway.. a radeon 9800 128mb? Pentium 4 processor?
Plus, the icons that you click that should let you go to the checkout screen are just pictures.. nothing more... this company deserves to die.. -
isn't this illegal and shouldnt/wouldnt this company be shutdown?

They're still at it? someone needs to get a clue already... they're as bad as Infinium Labs and their 'Phantom' console.
The sad thing is there are people in this world with lots more money than sense (I know a few personally..), which is why things like this exist. -
The "technology" names they use on the web site are priceless.
Boot-up Mirrored DataCaching Engine
Hard Disk Sub-layer CacheBuffer
RAM defragging and no-lossy compression techniques
Zero CPU time Dynamic Security Data Mirroring
I'm very disappointed to have not found "nVidia next-generation FX8000Turbo BiGi Granada EX". A real deal-braker for me. Although 100s of fune-tuned WinXP enhancements tempt me.
And not to forget the home page link to those displays: file:///monitors/athens/features/index.htm. -
Honestly, first of all I don't see the picture of this laptop matching necessarily on what's on the press release. Secondly, a machine like this IS feasible if sold in the $15K to $25K price range which is what their probably targeted price would be anyway. Thirdly (and I guess I am among the few) I bought from Liebermann a Hollywood Gold laptop with PuRAM before they closed shop and (aside from minor issues I've had.. bad SRAM chip and glitches on the PCMCIA controller) it is the most amazing laptop I have ever owned! And people state today the new laptops being out on the market now with Samsungs SSDs are the first in the world with Solid State Drives??? Liebermann was doing it YEARS ago on a limited run... at a premium price no doubt, but worth every penny. I simply don't get this consistently ridiculous bashing on a company that basically everyone seems to want and put down. Don't we all want better computers or is it that everyone's happy with a Dell or an Apple, nor more than a wanna-be Intel machine anyway??? How about having one small company raise from the crowds and actually do something that is ahead of everyone else? How about letting them do their job and hopefully see if they manage come back, and what their new products will really be like? I am so over this non-stop bash against these guys. I admire their stamina... personally if I was in this business and people put me down the way I see everyone do with these folks... gosh, I would have given up long ago...
Oh and, anyone in N.Y. that wants to see my rig in person? Just PM me. -
well i figured with all the publicity this has gotten it would have been caught. this story has been posted on engadget and on here and im sure other places. -
The amount of money they spend getting these "lies" marketed, they could actually develop a decent notebook.
Noobs.
Thanks for sharing andrew - Interesting stuff. -

Wow, I just can't believe they would write all that stuff. I do feel kind of bad to the people who actually believe them, and have the hands crossed for the computer.

I think this image speaks for itself
I think the only people in trouble here are stock brokers looking to make easy money, not your average joe.
