    The day after Thanksgiving in the United States became synonymous with "Black Friday" because most retail stores considered this day to be the start of the Christmas shopping season. It no longer matters whether the origin of the name comes from the chaos that consumes retail stores as massive crowds search for great bargains or whether it's the first day of the holiday season that retailers turn a serious profit "in the black." Nowadays you'll have trouble finding a store that isn't offering "Black Friday Deals" or "Black November Deals" or "The Blackest of Black Bargains of Blacker than Last Year's Black Friday Doorbuster Deals ... in Darkness."

    The bottom line is that Black Friday means deep discounts and those deals have spread to more than just the day after Thanksgiving.
