Averatec will be releasing a couple of new Vista laptops on May 11th. The Averatec 1579 will be an 11" screen ultraportable that uses a Core Duo ultra low voltage 1.06GHz processor, has 1GB of RAM and 120GB hard drive. The Averatec 2371 will be a 12" screen ultraportable set to replace the current 2370 model.

Some pictures of the Averatec 1579 can be found on the Buy.com website where it lists for $1,275.99. It's not currently available but according to other websites listing the same model, it will be available to order on May 11th. The basic specs of the Averatec 1579 are as follows:

• Processor: Intel Core Duo U2400 1.06GHz Ultra Low Voltage
• found here.[/p]

Averatec 2371

The Averatec 2371 will be an update to the currently available Averatec 2370. Not much is known about the specs on this notebook other than it will be almost precisely the same as the 2370, but will offer Windows Vista instead of the current Windows XP. A review of the Averatec 2370 can be found here. The specs for the 2370 are as follows:

• AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 – 1.6 GHz
• 100 GB SATA HD
• 1024mb DDR2 RAM
• nVidia 6100 Integrated Graphics
• Dual Layer DVD+RW
• 12.1” WXGA LCD with Averabrite technology
• Windows XP Media Center Edition
• 802.11b/g wireless
• 4-in-1 media card reader (MS/MS Pro/MMC/SD)
• Firewire (1) and USB 2.0 (3)

The only thing we expect to change with the 2371 is the operating system offering -- a switch to Vista from XP.

Well hey, thanks for mentioning me! They made the 1579 all black huh? Classy.
One thing you'll notice is that is has the exact same chassis as the older Averatec 1000 series, down to the exact same port placements.

I just wanted to correct you that the ACI Dimiq 1100 has a Core Solo processor, not Pentium M processor, thanks.

I hope Averatec makes the 1579 available in Canada as well - I'm definitely interested in that one. Going by the review of the older model, we should be looking at over 4h of battery life in a very stylish and inexpensive little package. I can't say I'm a fan of that resolution though as it's not terribly well-supported.

Major thanks to you for finding this info in the first place and reporting it, and for correcting me on that processor info (it's been updated in the main post).

After being plagued with supply shortages, a bargain is reborn. ^_^

In my experience, Vista runs relatively well on the 2370, with exception to those few instances where the NIC and VGA ports randomly cease to work. Hopefully the 2371 ironed out those issues.

Beautiful, the 1579 is. Great specs for an ultraportable, and an even better price.

The 2371: same old, same old, but the old was really really good value for money. I really was considering that during the Thanksgiving sale when it came down to $599. With Vista, I would be concerned about a performance slow down, but otherwise, its the same great deal.

The 1500 has such a delectable price - I can't wait to bite!
