Thank you for your opinion. We are not saying the battery is bad or that Asus is using bad batteries. We are simply stating the battery life is quite poor when compared to its competitors.

The V2JE consumes the same amount of whr as the V1JP, despite the V1 has a bigger screen, more features, and a much better GPU...yet the V2 has a smaller screen and a X1450 and just achieves 2 hours on the 6 cell and roughly 3 hours to 3:30 on the 9 cell.

In my opinion there is a combination of things affecting this, we know Vista decreases battery life. We know disabling the webcam can increase battery life.

We know there's a difference between a 8 cell in the V1JP which achieves 3 hours of battery life, just like in MysticGolem's review. I used the exact same settings in that review for the V2JE...and well look at the battery life the V2 achieved.

The A8Js gets roughly 2 hours 50 minutes with a really powerfull Go 7700 while the V2 has a X1450 and only gets 2 hours...there's something to think about here. That's why there's so much commotion about the battery life of this laptop.

Unfortunately the V2 is not a complete replacement for the W3J either, since it is missing a Multi-bay, and it doesn't have a powerfull enough graphic card to compete with the X1600, however Asus specifically states this is meant to be a business notebook.

That's where the big difference is, since the W3J can play both roles, a business notebook and gaming, while the V2Je can only do one...just a business notebook, however the battery life is not good, hence even business users would like 4+ hours with a 9 cell or close.

This doesn't mean people will not buy the V2, many here on the forums are looking for the perfect notebook, and Asus does come really close to making them. If this notebook got much better battery life, like we all anticipated, this would have been one of the best notebooks all round, however we will have to wait untill people further test the V2 to tweak the notebook to get more battery life if possible.

asus has too many models to realistically think someone will review them all.

Dealer reviews are the way to go.

Asus G1 doesnt need a dealer review but a g2 does because there just arent enough owners.

I doubt someone who spends 3k on a lamborgini vx2 is going to do a review here either we need either the site reviewer like chaz or any dealer who can volunteer for some free publicity.

There are just so many models of asus this sites format just wont let shoppers see them all.
    I mean dell sells e1405 e1505 e1705 xps 1210 1710 and youre done.
Asus has something like 30 models on sale at the same time. Its why the asus forum here is so large there are a lot of models the shopper has to look at.

A thought on the battery life problem: Is PowerPlay working for the X1450? I've had my Samsung X60 plus for 4 months and I'm still waiting for PowerPlay support for the X1700 to appear. As a result the battery (6 cell) life is little over 2 hours. I believe that the X1450 is similar technology to the X1700 and there may be similar problems in making it work properly. In my case, it seem that Samsung have waiting on ATI for some information. Could the V2JE be suffering a similar problem.

Thank you stamar, and your quite right, you won't believe how many notebooks there are, and most of them will never make it here for reviews :(. Thankfully and luckily I have the great opportunity to write reviews on laptops that very few will ever own.

I asked Danny to get me a VX2 for a review, but I don't think I can get one for review. I would really like to do a review on that but it will be rather hard to sell due to price in Canada.

As for the battery life and PowerPlay, you may be correct, that it may not be working properly. Why not use NHC and change the clock speeds of the X1700 from High Battery and move it the marker to low performance and same with Low Battery and move the marker to low performance.

From my understanding Asus is looking into the battery life, and see what they can do. As previously mentioned, disabling the webcam and using Windows XP will yield greater battery life, roughly 10-15 minutes.

I will look into NHC. I have tried using the ATI Tray Tools and saved a couple of Watts by halving the GPU clocks. However, proper power management should save a lot more power by shutting down parts of the GPU. I doubt if NHC reaches this far.

I hope the battery "issue" ends up being some kind of software issue that can be fixed with a BIOS flash.

After seeing MilestonePC.com review and the pics where V2J is compared with A8 i've some doubts.
In that pics (A8J vs W3 vs V2J) the A8J's screen appear to be a lot less shinhing than the V2J's screen. It's this true? Or is someting concerning the brite levels used on each laptop?
I think it useful if MilestonePC.com laptops comparison pics were taken with both screens with the same bright level and with the same background image... Can you do clarify me please? Or put some pics in that circunstances

    Thanks ;)

Yes it works great. Low battery life is the price you pay for using vista. Applies to all new models from all manufacturers

I believe the maximum brightness is 200 nitts, which is quite standard.

As for the screens of the other laptops, they are roughly all the same in terms of brightness and the like. The V2JE did seem a little brighter than the rest.

In terms of the battery I have done many battery life tests, your absolute max battery life should be roughly 2 hours on the 6 cell and 3 hours and 30 minutes on the 9 cell. This is of course with Vista. Those who will swtich to XP, will experience an increase in battery life.

On the contrary the 6 cell battery can pull up 2.5 hours after you undervolt it like mad but it dosnt come stock also this hot spots arnt as noticable too. Rite now my V2Je runs at 54 degrees and hots spots arnt as noticable the hotest it gets is 61 when it is at full power and when i am gaming i see temperatures at 65 which is acceptable with an OCed video card. I hope to push this laptop even further
