I have one question about the screen. Could someone perhaps take some pictures of the screen in the dark with a black background? Like they did here: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/361/7/

(should be in standard all reviews just like 3DMark benchmarks are but somehow screens never get usefull reviews like they have done on legitreviews)

I lost my camera's memory card so i can't take a picture for you, but the screen is amazing and displays black very well with minimal light leakage at the bottom of the screen. I'll post one if i ever find that card tho.

    Hi everybody.
I'm from Sweden and I'm looking for a laptop now. The one here, G1S AK005G, is just what I'm looking for (anyway according to the technical info and price). So before I decide I'd like to ask those, who are using it now, or have any experience of using it. Have you had any troubles with G1S (what is it's weakest part if I put it another way)? How long does the battery last? How much does it sound? Anything else worth to think of, before getting in closer touch with G1S?
    Thanks for your replies.

I just got my G1s about 4 hours ago, so I can't comment too much. I can see where some people might think the screen is grainy upon a close inspection, but in my opinion, it's not bad at all. Especially considering I was coming from a matte WUXGA screen to a glossy WSXGA screen.

The fan is pretty quiet, a lot less noise than my old HP ZT3000.

    The speakers are absolutely awful.

The fit and finish is great. It's a very solid laptop, and it looks nice enough to make most look past it's few blemishes (the gamer-look related ones to a lot of people).

I have no regrets so far. I've been tweaking Vista and installing all my daily-use programs, and have found it to work pretty smooth so far.

I wanted to buy the Asus G1S notebook . As far as i know the OS is placed in a seperate partition in the Hard disk and not with a seperate OS disc .
    Is this true? .

I wanted to upgrade the hard disk by placing Seagate Momentus 7200.2 160GB hard disk instead of the existing 5400rpm hard disk . If i upgrade then the Original OS would be of no use if it is in a separate partition in the hard disk .

People who bought this laptop pls help

    Hi.

I installed XP on my G1S, I have 2 problems:

when I install the "INF Update.exe" into the chipset folder, the USB devices don't work.

When I try to start "direct console", I have a message : "LCM device not exists"

    Thank you for your help.

intelme7, from what I know the G1S comes with a recover disc that contains backup software. Although the notebook is loaded with bloatware which means you might want to do a clean install after purchasing.

orbitalxp, sounds like you installed the wrong chipset drivers...

I to am looking at buying this laptop... My main question is GPU drivers, for the 8600GT. How can you update them? I looked on Asus's website and they don't have crap for updates? I have had bad luck with trying to install Nvidia drivers in the past on laptops. Where ATI I have had no issues using the Mod utility for ATI desktop to laptop converter....

How is the heat when you run it just surfing and programming? Can you throttle down the CPU and GPU to save battery life?

I heard that when the power cord is plugged in and its charging the battery the CPU throttles down? Someone said a new BIOS update was coming out to fix this?

    Thanks

I'm not sure about your other questions, but the following thread might help you with updating mobile GPU drivers:

The heat when just surfing the web's fine but noticeable, and concentrated on the right side. I guess this is ASUS's way of keeping the WASD keys cool for gamers. The area right above the harddrive on the right (centered on the ENTER key) gets pretty warm. For throttling down the CPU and GPU clocks.. I don't know about other software methods but just changing to "Batterysaving" or "Quiet Office" modes reduces the clocks to about 1/2 that of max.

This is very appealing to me but I'm a music enthusiast so hearing that the audio isn't that good irks me a bit...

It's only the in-built speakers that are crap, and they really, really are. They're placed badly too, so sound is a bit muffled. However, since you're a music enthusiast you should have some decent headphones. If you plug these or external speakers into the G1S, the sound is pretty good. IOW it's only the speakers that are at fault, not the sound output.

Does anyone have new links for the driver pack, or software needed for XP install? The links in the step-by-step guide are dead and I'm getting really tired of Vista's sloppy performance.

I want too buy the G1S-AK005C. Only I so as everybody knows the speakers of the G1S-A1 are bad, but is that also by the G1S-AK005C?

How do you guys like the WSXGA+ resolution? Are the size of letters not too small?

I don't think they're any different. There are one or two other designations for the G1S, like the G1S-B1, which as far as I can see is identical except for a T7700 CPU instead of the T7500 of the G1S-A1, the G1S-B2 which has 3GB of RAM etc. I can't speak from authority, but I'm fairly sure all of the G1S' are the same, just with slightly different CPU, RAM etc configs. The chassis' look the same, so I'd expect the speakers to be identical in all models.

Perhaps ALMOST too small. But personally I like having several windows open at a time and being able to resize them so I can read a forum at the same time to browsing on another site and flicking through my Winamp playlist. Besides, you can always change to a lower res, which would be no issue, especially on the desktop.

Those XP boost scores are MASSIVE! I get 3980 in 3d06 with Vista 32bit and the latest drivers (default res), so an extra 700-900 points without overclocking would be terrific. Maybe I WILL install that copy of XP I bought especially for my G1S.

Bull**** about the whole heat and noise thing.. I just sold my G1s because of the extremely high heat levels and it was noisy as **** at all times.
