With the W1, 2, & 3 and the V6, Asus had the sexiest lineup of notebooks on the planet. What happened to that design ethos?

Disappointing...although not so big a letdown as Andrew's Buckeyes :p

The G70 looks really nice. I like where the dual graphics cards, large screens, and keypad notebooks are going. A little more graphics horsepower would make me want to buy, but right now I'm still going to be waiting.

Quite frankly, I'm just underwhelmed by these new Asus notebooks. With the last 2 generations of notebooks, it's a real shame given Asus's past history of excellence. I'm so pessimistic that I'm willing to bet that the nVidia 9500 is just a die shrink of a 8400 with the new DirectX 10.1 (although this isn't really Asus's fault).

An American market happened. People are too cheap to spend the money on the V and W lines. Its too bad, the V6 was the best notebook ever. If the V6j didn't have the battery issue, I would have had it until 2010 or longer.

I concur, except I think the W3J was better

Don't blame me - I have owned a V6j and W3j. Hard to say that I ruined Asus. I would be very happy to see a new V6, with updated hardware and a working battery. I would buy that again.

yeah, ASUS is trying to replicate USA companies like Hp and Dell. There decreasing their quality and putting more effort of sales and ads etc. What ASUS was once, cannot be said the same for what it is now.

I know. I meant the market in general. And not entirely serious. I'd go for a new W3 or V6 (my A8 died).

Thats the problem - the market in general. It just seems like the W3 was popular enough to keep it, but then again...

To be honest, I quite like the G70. It's got something different to it. Something new, fresh. Not like that damned M1730, which is basically a mATX with an LCD strapped on.

Asus has generally been good with pricing. Any estimates on these things?

One more thing: was that 9500 a joke? Methinks it was.

LOLOLOLOL! nVidia 9500 I am assuming is a typo. The 9000 series cards are not set to be released until Q3 this year, and thats the flagship highend graphics card, like the 9800 GT. I highly doubt that its going to get a 9500, I think that was a typo, because there is no other information attached. Like nVidia Geforce 9500 or 9500M, since it is a laptop. Also the fact that he wrote T9500 in the same sentence makes me question that line even more. There has been no confirmed reports of a 9500 card for laptops. Besides they never release x500 cards for laptops, they always only release 100 and 200 for embedded, 300 and 400 for low end, 600 and 700 for mid range, and 800 and 900 for high end.

Besides, other than the rumored 9500M GS, which is being claimed to have been spotted in drivers and the Asus M51S or the G1Sn, those are the only two notebooks that have it thus far. Its based on the G84M core supposedley.

interesting assessment... 'there goes the neighborhood' theory. i've owned a w3v since 05 and now in 08 i'm back in the market. just wondering, who's the Asus of 05-06 if they've lost the edge, which i do agree, those pics don't look like sleek laptops.

Yeah I agree that Asus lost its edge and style. Unfortunately from my experiences with my W7, the build quality is not what it used to be either.

I'm a bit displeased with my W3j right now. One of the hinges has a nasty crack in it, which just started slowly appearing a long time ago. And, the paint on the touch pad button is wearing off. I use my computer everyday, so I need to contact support and see if they will cross ship me a new W3j.

Yes they do. They have also copied the V6 style hinge in other notebooks. I don't have any proof or anything that Asus had it first, but...
