Amidst all of the recent Apple desktop refreshes, they quietly increased the speed of the mid-range 15” MacBook Pro from 2.53 to 2.66GHz. Apple also gives users an upgrade path to go from the 2.66Ghz processor to the 2.93Ghz previously reserved for the 17” MacBook pro. Price stays the same at $2,499 with the option to upgrade the processor being $300.

Why is this newsworthy? I didn't see any articles when Sony started using the 2.66GHz and 2.93Ghz CPUs.

330 MHz doesn't seem like much motivation to spend $300.
