    Those prices are significantly lower than last generation, no? I guess the influx of high-res Win8 systems has shown Apple it can't charge an arm and a leg just because of a high-res screen. Yay competition!

    Anyway, these machines look very, very nice. Should do very well for Apple.

    Yes. I'd say that's part of it, but also that it's probably a fair bit cheaper for Apple to make them now than it was last year.

    They dropped 4GB RAM from the base configuration as well.

    MBP's with Retina used to come with at least 8GB of ram.
