My GOD! Wait until next year for such-n-such update? That argument could go on indefinitely! If you have an intel Mac, then chances are you bought it within the last year and if opening the wallet to purchase this iteration is within the realm of possibility, then why not? You can obviously afford to do so again next year!

No laptop has "everything". Example, I will only buy laptops with Nvidia graphics (Linux 3D support) which knocks a huge chunk of models out for me.

But new notebooks with ATI graphics is rather scarce don't you think? I'd say it's on the scale of 9:10.

Obvously that scale is going to shift, however, once AMD-ATI actually release their new lineup of notebook GPUs

Well, I think that a lot of the AMD notebooks, when they come in for the next chipset, will get ATI graphics cards.

True, but in the previous 3 years it was the other way around. There were more ATI models than Nvidia.

Actually both are pretty scarce. Intel GMA seems to hold the lion's share of the market.

We all know how well the Vista upgrade program worked :p

Seriously though, I don't know. But if they do, I bet they won't show the same degree of incompetency as Microsoft's Express Upgrade program

AFAIK, there is no software upgrade program that Apple offers. In any event, the OS is just $100~140 depending on whether or not you have a student discount. Also, there's just ONE self-sufficient box. They don't screw you over like Microsoft by making you fork over your first-born child for the fully-featured version of the OS, nor will they make you jump through hoops to install an 'upgrade' version of it.

I heard that before the last release they offered a coupon for the upcoming OS if you bought the hardware. I can't confirm that, but if you search the forums at macrumors.com you'll see the same thing... but who knows if they'll do it again. No way to know.
