Who's the more remarkable because of this? MS or Apple?

I want to try OSX on my machine but I fear it's not made for any other hardware besides Macs and will die as soon as I try it =/

A truly great operating system runs on any equivalent hardware and OSX has failed when Apple has continuously restricted its ability to run on non-Mac hardware. Windows and Linux are by far the most flexible and capable OSes.

So the dual gpu can't be used at the same time when in OSX or Windows?. Why no SLi seems alot of waste for them to not utilise both cards at the same time

Apple's entire business model depends on this restriction. If you take away the restriction, you take away everything that is a Mac. The minute the restriction is removed Apple would be reduced to nothing but an OS company. They wouldn't last more than 6 months in that state.

Funny. Whenever someone doesn't like something about a Mac. They're an Apple flamer. Even if they own a Macbook Pro. It's too bad the non-defensive I'm a Mac commercial doesn't translate to its users/owners. It's truly sad when a consumer no longer has the right to express his/her displeasure for a product.

So what else do you need to have a functional right click? There are more ways to right click on a mac than on a pc, each of them separately configurable, yet none of them are good enough? I'm not defending Macs or Apple. I'm simply attacking your "displeasure" at the inability to have an adequate right click on a mac. If you want to rest your hand on the pad, fine, turn off the "two-finger" tap and use either control+tap or configure the lower right area of the trackpad to right click. It's exactly the same as on a pc... just without the physical presence of a button. PS: Complete sentences are your friend.

Stop the arguing, you dont wont the thread closed.

I think the new trackpad looks very minimalistic, and the new clicking system (my friend has one) feels pretty nice, though i never think it will ever replace normal trackpads.

Hey great review here. I'll be honest:
I own a PC (in siggy), and, up until reading this review, I would never have considered buying a Mac. While it's still overpriced, it's now within a somewhat reasonable price. The very solid design is great, I didn't think this would be that much of an issue until I realized how much my laptop goes through when I use it daily in classes.
Switchable graphics? Awesome... I seriously think this should become the norm. Even at your "low" battery life of 3.5 hours, that's way beyond my < 3 hours with a lot of tweaking (my model's infamous for poor battery).
Lack of ports isn't that much of an issue for me, I'm a student, I just need a couple of USB ports and a headphone jack.

Overall, nice review, nice laptop. Even if I had the money, I probably wouldn't buy this, but now I'm a little eager to what Apple will continue to come up with.

Anyone come up with bigger and larger pictures? I mean I own a PC but if people need Macs, I recommend them or whatever.

But from what I've seen the glossiness as well as the price point for the new MBP makes it hard to recommend.

Oh well, I just tell my MBP owning friends that they don't have to deal with super shiny reflections ;)

I just called the Apple store! I might actually be moving to a mac for the first time in life. Something still rubs me the wrong way ... I don't know if it's the Apple and someone taking a bite out of an Apple as their logo and in biblical terms it's sort of a bad metaphor. Probably stupid things but I can't shake the feeling. Maybe I'm just nervous about leaving Windows.

Nice use of the word "ancillary". :GEEK:

You don't have to do it, dude. There are other ways. The Dell Latitudes are pretty sick, and Asus puts out some nice stuff. Mac is too overstated, to monopolistic. Linux offers an attractive alternative to either Windows or OSX. Don't subscribe to the capitalistic values of highbrow computing. Don't pay the premiums. Rebels of the computing world, UNITE!

P.S. You can still run Windows or Linux on a MacBook Pro. ;)

Yea... I just played with a new MBP at the university computer store and the reflections are no good.

At full brightness, you could see the reflections of the flourescent tubes that lit the store even in areas where the screen was white.

At half brightness, I began to se reflections of myself and faint reflections of the rest of the store.

At minimum brightness, it was unuseable.

Hey I've post the review in my blog. Feel free to check it out. :)

Anyway, is there any way to solve the reflection problem...?

Thank you very much for paying careful attention to the temps in this review. It is too bad they no longer have the matte screen but with the temps down it makes things very tempting.

Not sure if I read it on this site or another one, but it's worth mentioning. It was stated that one of the drawbacks of all the glass on the screen was that it makes the screen/top panel heavy. Basically if you have a tendency to use the laptop tipped towards you (say in bed or laying down on the couch w/ your knees bent), the hinge mechanism isn't strong enough and the screen will fall forward.

I went down to BestBuy and tested it out and found it to be true. I'm not sure if everyone is finding that to be the case or not but based on what I read and then the store model I played around with, it is a problem.

I am a little disappointed in the battery life too, but not so much that I would give up this little wonder Macbook Pro for anything else.

I am also a bit distressed by the touch pad rotate function. It is so sensitive that it gets in the way of smooth working with images. I have inquired about this and there is just one answer-- to slow down the scrolling, which I don't want to do. Apparently that would prevent the "rotate with a twist of two fingers" going into action every doggone chance it gets. I talked to the "genius" but was told there was no option on this. I was lucky enough to meet up with the guy who sold me this little wonder in the Apple store. He thought I may have to wait for a software upgrade to solve this problem. I certainly will let Apple know that this is annoying. When I rotate an image, I want to do it precisely, and only at certain times. This smartpad cutie app seems out of control. A user should be able to turn it off. Any suggestions to a person who is not a programmer?

This might just not be the right place but is there anyway to buy a MacBook Pro on US Site or via phone and make them ship it to Europe ?

LOL... :twitchy: The fact is that the screen is pretty shabby to say the least. I looked at the screens and believe that Apple could have offered a better screen and more USB ports for the price those Apples are selling for.

Why consider a pre-1080p laptop in a post 1080p market? And no HDMI to connect and work on your big screen TV? tsk tsk....Reflection from the screen aside, the biggest disadvantage to MBPs is the fact that they are limiting their technology by licenses and severly restricted. No Blu-ray player, why am I paying soo much and not getting what I want? Sony has the specs right when you customize a laptop on their site. Just check out their FW Series laptops and you'll know what i mean. Better build, isolation keyboard which was initially designed by Sony & copied by Apple and HD ready for a much fair and better price. Oh and there are no reflections from this glossy 1920 x 1080p 16.4" widescreen which is essentially an HD theatre in a box.
