Apple just released a complete refresh to the Macbook Pro as well as a new upgraded Macbook. Both of these notebooks offer a revolutionary solid brick manufacturing process similar to the Macbook Air, where the notebook body is formed from a single block of aluminum. This new body is lighter and stronger than the previous body and frame. A new feature unique to both of these models are a larger glass surface multitouch touchpad where the entire surface is your touchpad button, no longer needing a separate control. Users lose any tactile feedback, but at least they won’t have problems finding that single button.
$1,999 MacBook Pro Specifications:
- 15.4” LED-backlit display
- 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (3MB L2 Cache)
- 2 GB 1066MHz DDR3 memory
- Hybrid Graphics (NVIDIA 9400M Integrated/ 9600M Dedicated with 256MB)
- 250GB Hard Drive
- Slot-Loading SuperDrive
$2,499 MacBook Pro Specifications:
- 15.4” LED-backlit display
- 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (6MB L2 Cache)
- 4 GB 1066MHz DDR3 memory
- Hybrid Graphics (NVIDIA 9400M Integrated/ 9600M Dedicated with 512MB)
- 320GB Hard Drive
- Slot-Loading SuperDrive
The new Apple MacBook Pro also offers an easier solution for accessing both the hard drive and battery bay, with a single opening on the bottom of the case. Unlike the last design which required you to completely tear apart the notebook to upgrade or replace the hard drive, this method take only a matter of minutes.
The MacBook Air was also given a model refresh, bumping from the older Intel X3100 integrated graphics to the newer NVIDIA 9400M integrated graphics.$1,799 MacBook Air Specifications:
- 13.3” LED-backlit display
- NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics
- 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (6MB L2 Cache)
- 2 GB 1006 MHz DDR3 memory
- 120GB SATA hard drive
$2,499 MacBook Air Specifications:
- 13.3” LED-backlit display
- NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics
- 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (6MB L2 Cache)
- 2 GB 1006 MHz DDR3 memory
- 128GB SSD
The bread and butter Macbook also saw a model refresh with an upgraded 13.3” model that looks like a shrunked MacBook Pro. This model offers the same solid aluminum block carved down to a lightweight chassis design, as well as the all-glass multitouch touchpad.
$1,299 MacBook Specifications:
- 13.3” LED-backlit display
- 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (3MB L2 Cache)
- 2 GB 1066MHz DDR3
- NVIDIA GeForice 9400M Integrated Graphics
- 160GB hard drive
- Slot-loading SuperDrive
The standard MacBook will still be offered for a $100 lower price starting at $999. Overall the new models look impressive with the newer chassis design, which should offer much stronger notebooks. The move to super glossy screen overlays and no touchpad buttons will be interesting, but I will hold back any comments until I see it in person.

They look nice, but I'm not so sure about the trackpad.
-
where is that $799 macbook ?
oh, no. just a rumor. price up $200 on 13.3. -
I had some doubts about buying my MBP back in september due to the impending refresh.
But now that I've actually seen it, I don't think it either really matters nor did I miss out on anything due to it. -
^sorry,but i didn't got you.
Still, those notebooks are very very very cool!!! -
The new MBP is actually heavier than its predecessor lol.
-
They really know how to make people buy one....imo, the prices are a little bit too high for the specifications....but I will be looking at the configurations after they fix the typos on the store site
-
I´m eager to read reviews for the new macs. No it`s just a decision whether to go for the Pro or regular.
-
I'm excited about the all aluminum design.
-
So the 9600M is the max...no big surprise for me honestly
-
any idea how on long it takes for these to reach retailer stores like best buy or frys?
-
The one thing I´m kinda dissapointed in is the batterylife, I was hoping for a tad more. But a claimed 5h with a 9600gt Hybrid is still pretty good imo. -
They have officially killed the macbook pro for me.
I have always hated the new style keyboard and loved the older keyboard on the pro. Also.. no more matte screen = ( -
I'm glad they didn't kill those with tapered edges like the Air as some rumors suggested, so at least I won't hate them.
However, I don't see an option for a matte screen which was a big advantage for the MBP, at least for me. Not exactly a fan of this type of keyboard either.
Otherwise, no surprises really. -
well the design is no surprise, iphone/ipod touch meet the macbook air. not a fan of the design, still drab like the older designs. but that is not what is putting me off, the price is and if you ask me it's way too much. I speced a 13 inch macbook on the canadian site and it came out to 2 grand, for such a price I could have a much better 15 inch or even a proper 13 inch from sony.
I was waiting to see what apple would introduce, guess I waited for nothing. -
So much for "investing" a new manufacturing technology. -
aaaaagh!!!!! its £100 more expensive than the previous generation!!!!!.but never mind, the wait got rewardeD!!!!!! thanks apple!!!! you ROCK!!!!!! add me to the list of new macbook pro owners!!!!!
-
Apple has officially finished its transition of fully catering to the average consumer, while abandoning features of what makes their pro products professional in many ways.
-
They dropped the 17" MBP?
-

I like the new Macbook. It is priced perfectly to fight the Sony Vaio SR and HP DV3500T (the main two Centrino 2 notebooks with dedicated graphics, LED screens, and dedicated graphics).
-
The new Macbook line looked attractive until I saw the price and gagged.

LOL i told everyone that the macbook would be about $1300-$1400 with the nvidia GPU and it looks like i was right how is this gonna work with windows without the buttons? i guess you have to hook up a mouse now for certain.
-
I am extremely upset about no inclusion of the HDMI port as that is one port I am loving. According to Jobs it does not support the 30" monitor so that is why he did not include it, but why not have HDMI and mini monitor port?? so us media freaks can be satisfied also.
Also they did not include blue-ray as an option and that is upsetting. Something about too much head aches for consumers due to licensing, whatever.
Other than that it's pretty cool machine. -
-
Did I just miss it or do they not say what model # processor is used?
-
I was hoping for a sub-$900 Macbook. Would've finally convinced me to make the switch. As it is now, I'm waiting for Windows 7. -
MBP looks good i think I'm going to wait for a review then I'll see. I still want a MBP so I guess it really doesn't matter. I need to upgrade from an old 2003 computer anyway. To be continued....

The switch to universal LED technology and DisplayPort is the one thing I find intriguing. The main specs are finally in line with PCs (Montevina platform is now standard, 13.3 macbook now tops out with the same processor as my far lighter and better [in my opinion] Thinkpad x200). They could actually get good battery life out of these things if they would just drop in a real battery (The Macbook claims 5 hours with a 45 WHr battery [the only option], while the x200 ranges from 3 to 9 hours depending on the battery used [I get close to 9 with a 84 WHr battery]), I know this would damage their clean lines, but I think it is something they should look into.
Does anyone know much about the performance of the NVidia 9400M. I know it is an integrated processor and is clearly better than the x3100, but how does it compare to the x4500. Please lay off the Intel GPUs suck comments, and focus on performance. The x4500 is good for HD video decoding and light gaming, is the NVidia 9400M better, or does it just have an NVidia badge without any real improved performance?
It's about time apple dropped the touchpad button. If you are only going to have a one button interface, and a giant trackpad, it makes sense to ditch the button(s). I personally prefer, and will stick to forever if possible, the Thinkpad trackpoint with a left, right, and scroll modifier, but that is in large part because most PC touchpads are way too small to be of any use (you have to constantly lift your finger and start over to get anywhere). The touchpads on the new Macbooks may actually prove useful due to the crazy real estate and multi-touch interface. -

Like I said everything is good about this computer, but only those two areas are downers. (blueray and hdmi) -
MacBook Air, useless and pretty as ever.
-
I am very glad I did not wait for the new MBP and went for the Sager 5793.
I think many people are very disappointed when they only included the 9600GT for the asking price. No matte screen also a big boo-boo in my books.
I won't be surprised to see a lot of MBs on the campus though. -
$1299 for the MacBook with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo and INTEGRATED graphics STILL. Hilarious.
Seriously. Hilarious. -
EDIT: Also they look A LOT like the M15x no? -
The Macbook uses the Intel P series chips (based on frequency, FSB, and cache size). P8400 (2.4GHz/3MB) is the max available.
The Macbook Air uses the Intel S series chips (based on frequency, FSB). SL9400 (1.86GHz/6MB) is the max available.
The Macbook Pro uses the Intel P and T series (based on frequency, FSB, cache) and the T9600 (2.8 Ghz/6MB) is the best available. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Backlit keyboard is only available on P8600 version of the Macbook. Not cool.

So much for the new competitive pricing that can't be beat.. didn't think it was going to happen though, so can't claim surprise.
-
The big disappointment is that Apple didn't push the price barrier down, the hardware looks quite nice of course, though I'm dubious on the buttonless touchpad.
Everyone has been holding their breath for Apple to scoop up more market share by making the price more accessible. Given people are being more cost conscious these days these new MacBooks won't sell terribly well. The $999 on the old MacBook might actually mean you see more of those being sold than the new one. They really should have striven to get the old MB price down to $899 though.
Don't get me wrong, you'll see these new MB popping up at your local Starbucks soon. There are many out there that can justify the leap to $1,299 from $999 because, hey, it's new and only 30% more for price of entry. -

The 8200/8300 780G/790FX both outperform the G45 by a lot, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a 9400 doing even better than that. ;] -
