$2700 for a 8800M GTX notebook w/ C2D 2.4GHz, 2GB DDR2, 200GB 7200rpm... ?
Not bad... could be a little better.
For comparison, a system of the same specs (Sager 5792 w/ 17" LCD):
- $2387.00 -
Considering the option for a 8800mGTX and a 8700mGT in a 15.4 is quite impressive.
It may be quite popular.
I wish I had the funds to drop on that. -
Only 1.3" thick? That's impressive.
7 lb? Well... at least it's the same weight as a Dell 15.4" notebook.
Battery life should be pretty good too with that Binary Hybrid system they have going. -
It's somewhat hefty, but I don't think anybody would buy a gaming machine with an 8800m GTX expecting it to be light and fluffy.
It's really tempting, though. With the 7700 and 8800m GTX it's faster than my m9750 (which I loooove!). I can't wait to see what the m17X's final specs and customizations. -
$99 more than the MBP. I could live with that. Although the MBP is considerably cheaper with discounts.
-
Whats the world coming to? A Dell (XPS-M1330) and Alienware laptop design that I actually like
The m15x lid is much better looking than the alien saucer design in previous generation laptops. Lines are much cleaner. Build quality seems better, but I think the case is plastic with metallic finish instead of real metal -
I dunno about you guys but I do not like this notebook. I have liked all alienware notebooks up until now, and the best ones come out and boom I do not like them!
-
WOW That gets expensive quick, $2,699 for the top end, $300 dollars more for 1920x1200, $300 for 4GB RAM = $3,299
I guess thats the price you pay for the only 15.4 laptop on the market with a 8800GTX -
i guess they figured only dumb asses with too much money would get the WUXGA screen on a 15'4...........and an even bigger dumb ass to pay 300 bucks for 4 gb of ram when they are less than $100 in stores.
the guys on 'what notebook should i buy' forum with budgets like $5000 will love it though. -
awesome! 15.4" + 8800M GTX is a breakthrough of epic proportions!
oh yea I also forgot:
You can switch between an 8800M GTX and an intel x3100 -
oh...hybrid graphics card has always been an nice addition.
For the cheapest one, I think Alienware should give us at least 8600GT, so the GPU choices would be 8600GT, 8700GT, and 8800GTX. -
Looking at the 8700M GT model specs shows that the design is 'All-new Ripley case design including Alienware non-illuminated, custom keyboard' That's a bummer. The keyboard lighting was maybe my favorite thing about this notebook.
-
No Windows XP !???
-
I think, the mx 17 is ready to be dropped but they gotta sell the 9750 first !
For the options, the more options we have , the more delayswe gonna get !
So less options sometimes is better for a quick reactivty of the factory (like the mac MBP's...) -
-
I myself dont like Windows Vista, but as time go advanced, it's could be very hard to find an entertainment notebook like this offering Windows XP again.
Probably, XP is still offered for some time only for business machines. -
Little OT: Be careful ordering a Clevo M570RU with 4GB RAM, I had to troubleshoot one yesterday because the memory card reader stubbornly refused to work with 4GB RAM under Vista Ultimate 64bit, though worked fine with 1 and 3GB. -
As i'm a audio professionnal, xp is really needed !!
I bought a clevo d 901C q6700, 3 hdds and a sli of 8700gt, in germany but as i'm alot of time in the us, the system crashes in US, and i was f...up without support :!
So right now, it's gonna be an alien (Arima) or an xotic (clevo)!!! -
For the UK website they have brought back the old 15.4 "road warrior " with a 7600 card in it whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ????????
I am guessing we wont get here for ages . at 2600 bucks thats about 1400 quid here , we always pay 30-40 percent more than you lucky buggers -

No Penryn? Heh.
Hope we get to see a review of this monster soon. -
I don't like that Alienware is always a generation behind (excuses can be found, but what's the point?). Penryn!
Oh, and why can't I custom configure the laptop the way I want to? I want a basic config! I'm not a fan of 15", so waiting for the M17x. Hopefully I can get it for less than 2000 - 2200E in the summer . -
People just like to complain to much! -
I know they are available, Sony has plenty of them...
I started to order one this morning, but when I was rechecking my order I noticed the processor was a T7700 and not a T9300, almost a HUGE mistake. I have to buy today, so looks like I am getting another XPS, an M1730 instead.
Too bad... I really wanted a m17X really, really bad! -
Going back to the Alienware M15x....I want one. Badly. Even the base configuration is enough for me, and for under $2100....I'd be sold if I needed a new laptop now (which I don't). I don't care if it doesn't have Penryn yet. -
eVroKid this is just BS. Stop posting like that. Try to be impartial. Penryn is way better than Merom CPUs (in terms of battery life and performance) . A T7700 is better than a T7600 and the upgrade price is 0 (at Clevo resellers) compared to any SR (T7700 like) CPU. They have the same prices. Wake the **** up! Don't want to be rude , but just because your laptop doesn't have a SR or Penryn CPU it doesn't mean that they're worse. Paying that much money on a laptop should get you a latest generation hardware inside or at least a future option of an upgrade. And yes, it is a generation behind (call it a refresh, I don't mind, however it is much more than that). However, if it has a PM965 chipset then the only problem would be Alienware updating the BIOS in order for the new CPUs to be installed (that and probably some decent upgrade prices if they will ever consider it).

So, who wants to buy one for me?
-
Anyone knows how much it will cost with t7250/or something like that/ and 8800gtx???
-
I've had UXGA (1600x1200) on a 15" screen for five years now...I couldn't live without the extra screen real estate when I'm editing photos or spreadsheeting or working in multiple windows...
If games are all you do, then 1400x900 works fine...but if you only do games, I would suggest an XBox 360 for around $300-$400 and learn to live without Crysis...
For me, I love to play games, but I use my computer for a lot of other stuff, too... -
Disclaimer:I do not own an Alienware, nor am I likely to buy one any time soon.
Is there any reason why Penryn wasn't included in this thing? What's the point?Alienware is supposed to be a boutique builder, one of the first on the block with new hardware. If ASUS is releasing Penryn notebooks, why aren't they?Anyone?
PS I do like the 8800M though. -
I think there would be refresh in some time in the future to release Penryn version of m15x. Or they prefer to use Penryn in their 17" ?

Penryn is not a huge deal, as the performance of the current Core 2 Duo is already amazing. Penryn is about 5-10% faster and can improve battery life by about the same amount (on average). Noticeable? No. Preferable? Yes, considering the price has hardly changed.
Please keep this thread under control - if you don't have anything intelligent to say then keep to yourself. -
I'm more interested in the $1500 one - not as much a 'gaming' laptop, but a good quality laptop with good support and service that can play games on the side. Just wish they splurged and tossed in 2GB for that $1500.
Nice that it comes with 1440x900 as standard.
Does Alienware ever have sales or coupons? -
From the picture on the website it seems that the bezel is quite thick.
Does anyone know which ODM the notebook chasis comes from? I wonder how good the keyboard is besides being backlit. As expected, although the notebook design is innovative, it is overpriced even compared to other gaming notebooks. -
Quite pricey but not too bad, considering the specs you get.
-
I believe it's Arima.
-
If the pocketbook won't accept it, the Gateway offering for US customers looks appealing.
-
Meh not too bad. 1000 more then what was originally planned. But for the base specs it's pretty good. Not to mention an 8800m GTX in a 15.4" that's the amazing part.
-
not a bad price at all. $2600 considering what you get is just fine for me. A similarly configured clevo M570RU runs ~$2300.
Im willing to pay ~$400 more for 15.4", integrated graphics switchable, alienware design, illuminating keyboard, and all the extras you get. -
Mheh, and the sager has a 17 inch screen ... and sager support.
I do have to agree that the smartbay in the AW is veeeeeery tempting...whish my sager had one... -
Those aren't the base specs. He picked the most expensive configuration to post. The base price is $1400, but that one has not been released yet.
-
I usually am a Asus/Apple design kinda guy, and I've owned a powerful Sager in the past, but I have to admit this looks sweet. A thin, powerful notebook with backlit keys?! 8800GTX? In a 15 inch, no less!
Dare I say, its not quite as sleek as a macbook pro, but its damn close, and a ton more powerful. If only they offered the "Clearview" in UXGA - I love me some glossy screen! Though I don't mind the lower resolution in a laptop, as it means the video card "lasts longer". -
A little bit disappointing there is no SWXGA+ (1600x1050) option.
-
-
That's 17", not 15".
-
I wouldn't mind buying this. But two things are stopping me.
1) Didn't Intel just release a bunch of new processors for mobile?
2) Didn't Nvidia just release something new about a GPU that would allow a lower power state when not gaming?
If I bought this laptop now, I could just imagine that the (please tell me I read this wrong) 6 cell battery would just die in like 1hr or less? I wonder why only 6 cell? Others have 9+ for longer run time, granted those are 17in but even my Asus G1s comes with a 8cell. -
Yes, Intel released the Penryn line, but nVidia didn't release anything but the 8800M GT line (X and S).
The 6 cell battery might work for an hour or two, but also consider that it has integrated graphics and you can just switch.
