This has been popping up everywhere with Dell for the last 1-2 years. I hoping this will cause them to finally find a definitive fix for it...for all systems. With some other models you still have to kind of work-around to get latency down.

Wasnt this the original problem with the SXPS13 of high latencies?

I must say, my 26 months old laptop has good sound and no DPC latency problems. But good that Dell recognises it, and decides to look for a fix.

Yes...and also with latitudes and precisions. There seems to be some flaw that a LOT of models are inheriting. For the precision line a lot was fixed with the updated AHCI driver but not for everyone. Also switching to ATA mode helps a great deal but not if you need the eSATA port ofcourse.
Who knows, the issue is so widespread and occurs with so many different models and configs it could be anything. Maybe they should try some different suppliers for certain parts.....like TI iso Ricoh for the card controllers and such. Ricoh has kind of a nasty rep for audio use.

Its unknown, but its not an issue for everyone. While i have the latency on my M17x i have zero stuttering issues in anything i've attempted (games, audio playback, video playback, etc) so its not causing everyone the same problem.

Batboy has figured out what to do to basically stop the stuttering on his system (and it should work for most) but some people are having the issue tied into the slave GPU because it has a very agressive powermizer that cannot be disabled.

So in truth I really dont know if there is a single issue at fault, and its not an issue for everyone. And sometimes even people with the same configs will have different levels of the stutter.

So it can be anything then...a random glitch?

Sadly enough it seems that way. :(

I really dont envy the Dell/Alienware techs that are assigned to tackle this problem.

There's plenty of DPC trouble shooting suggestions in this thread. One of the main causes of high DPC on the Latitude E series was Intel's matrix storage driver and most problems went away when it was updated.

Is this affecting the m15x, sounds like it's JUST affecting SOME Dells?

The issue isn't present in all models and even then it doesn't always have the same effect, not even when you've the exact same configuration. Who knows, you might want to let people in the m15x section run the DPC latency checker to see if somethings up. If they see occasional spikes but never have audio clicks or other playback issues i wouldn't be too worried though.
