<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-11-13T15:37:51 -->In a slip up on the Alienware website it appears the company is set to release a couple of new notebooks, the M15x and M17x will be 15" and 17" notebooks respectively. The Nvidia 8800GTX graphics card, unknown about to date, was part of the option on these notebooks that showed up on Alienware.com today but was later taken down.
Below is a screenshot from the Alienware.com website that promoted the new Nvidia 8800GTX graphics card today:
(view large image)The Area-51 m15x 15.4" notebook appeared on Alienware.com with a starting price of $1,399 equipped with a Core 2 Duo T7100 (1.8GHz processor), 1GB of memory, 80GB 7200RPM hard drive and Nvidia 8600m graphics card. You can of course trick the machine out with much higher configurations, including up to an Nvidia 8800 GTX processor with 512MB of memory. This graphics card isn't officially announced yet, but obviously it will be soon. The 8800GTX will serve as the highest end mobile graphics offering from Nvidia, surpassing the current 8700 graphics card in performance.
The bigger Area-51 m17x 17" notebook will start at $2,199 and offer SLI 8800GTX graphics (dual graphics) and up to an Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme 2.8GHz processor. You can get such options as a Blu-Ray Recorder and 200GB 7200RPM hard drive on the m17x to boost the price all the way up to about $6,000.

Woot! a 15 inch with 8800!!!
-

That's quite some graphics power for a 15.4" notebook. Heck, that's quite some graphics power period
-
yah what a little bonus for us notebook lovers....a 15.4" laptop with the most powerful video card to date
that just makes me feel giddy and i dont even really play games! -
best part is that its actually a decent price too!
-
What I don't quite understand is how they are going to accommodate the change between the 8600 and the 8800. the 88 is a MXM Type III whereas the 8600 is type II. Will the chassis change or will the 8600 buyers just benefit from better cooling?
-
From what i remember there were two different chassis listed with black and silver for each, maybe the final version of the page will be set up so you need a certain one for the 8800.

What!? A 15.4" notebook with an 8800GTX? That is against all the laws of nature! This can mean 2 things: or the 8800GTX is an incredible power saving video card or the 8800GTX is weak and more comparable with the 8700GT.
I think I will go for the first. Just think about the fact that they send 1 year on this card! The 8600GT was out at February-March (for sale) while the 8800GTX is available in December 2007 probably.
Edit: Great to see that this card is 256 bits. I am not very good with shaders and clocks but I bet someone (Chaz, Ivan, Mujtaba?) can give us any idea of its performance. -
OMG, 8800GTX in an 15.4'' Awesome baby. If this is true, it also means the other business class can do the same thing. WOW, 2008 is worth waiting for.

8800GTX and Numeric pad in 15 inch laptop !!!!!!!!!!!
-Jabriiiz -
Be ware tho. The laptop could be scorchingly hot. I still remember the days when Alienware sold those lap-scorching P4 laptop. It sounds more plausible if they put 8800GTX in the C90s. Unless, Alienware has a more radical design than the C90s
-
Well, this one seems to be just like a desktop gts except for the bus (256bit vs. 320bit)!!!
-
if these alienware laptops aren't literally scorching hot, it'll increase their market share, anyone invested in ASUS?
-
Yeah, this is amazing! So is the 17-inch SLI graphics... I feel bad about not waiting now to buy a lappy... Oh well the Dell 1520 isn't slow...
-
This is gonna make quite a few C90S pop there heads up, like me
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
HAHA! You naysayers, I laugh at you!! Hopefully the c90 will get the 8800 that was mentioned before. Though the only thing that bugs me is the tdp which can't be 35 then as rumored before.
-
An 8800GTX in a 15.4"? I want one. NOW!
However, it seems rather unlikely, plus there's always the Asus C90... -
Interesting to see the 8800 show up in a 15'' notebook, since ppl on the forum were denying such a possibility. But the ati RV670 cards are coming up and is based on 55nm process, so the ati cards might have similar capabilities while using less energy. -
anybody see any pics on the site...weight?
-
He was referring to the older 8800GTS. Granted, the new 8800GTS, which will be on the G92 chip will be 512mb and 256 bit. I do love the idea of the 8800M GTX not being that far behind from the 8800 GTX,desktop version
-
Yea I would not be surprised at all if AW errs on the side of unwise as far as heat goes, the current m5550 runs pretty hot and people have had them fry on them. However, if the 15.4" with conventional cooling will work at all with it, I would expect that the c90s will be able to handle it quite nicely.
This fits in well with my evil plan.... -
Guys this new 8800GTX "Go" card will be based of the new 65nm desktop 8800GT. I am willing to be it will be very underclocked, should probably provide a nice boost over the 7950GTX Go with good direct x 10 support.

The 8800M GTX seem very reasonable considering the power and thermal limitations. The number of shaders, core clock and memory clock are all identical to the original desktop 8800GTS while the shaders are actually clocked 50MHz higher. The only limiter is the 256-bit bus versus 320-bit, but realistically I don't think it'll make a huge difference in performance. It might not scale to as high resolutions, but it has a bit more shader power.
-
If they can maintain these yields as these processes get smaller, it's not going to be too long until we're in heaven, which will be good, because that will be when I buy a new computer.
Think of it, a few years down the road, and I could be carrying around a 14.1 inche notebook with extreme graphics power. -
I'm pretty sure that the M15x won't be the most practical notebook out there, but the thought of a 15.4" notebook with an 8800GTX (which is essentially a cut down DT 8800GT) is just so awesome. I want one, kinda the same way that I want a Porsche 911 Turbo, primarily because its soooo awesome, but given the cash, I would probably buy something more practical and usable on a daily basis (or buy a decent gaming desktop [Nissan GT-R, to continue the car analogy] and a small notebook [BMW 335i Sport] with the same money).
-
Im just hoping the 7950gtx's will go down in price once the 8800's are out...
Or hold out for a 8800 that will fit into the Vostro 1500...but doubtful -
8800GTX in a 15.4" laptop!?!?!? I think I just found my next laptop...
-
Is that the 100% sure starting price of the m15x? Cause if it is, It will be the most affordable, and the best 15.4" laptop!!!!!!! (for it's power, of course)
-
Are they still using an ODM notebook or have they designed there own new laptop.
-
Wow...Wow 15.4 Model with 8800GTX .I'll sell my 5920g & buy 8800GTX notebook when they release ....
-
Good slip for Alienware. This is certainly creating a lot of hype.
-
I know Alienware is owned by Dell, but I think the XPS design, engineer and marketing team are different to those in the Dell Inspiron group and those in the Alienware group.
I just hope the Dell XPS team is crapping their pants and make the m1730 8800 capable - at the moment on the official Dell forums they have stated that they do not intend to release any new card types for the m1730. -
Well, it was only a matter of time before this became possible -- to cram a top tier graphics card into a 15.4" notebook.
Looks like it isn't a C90s either since it uses mobile processors instead of desktop processors. I hope this is a sign of things to come in gaming notebooks. I'm referring to you Asus. *Looks at 14" notebooks* -
Well, the way I see it, there's two possibilities. AW could have decided (once again) to go the incredibly unwise route of selling an MXM-III 15.4" notebook, or the 8800M-GTX has somehow been cramed down below the originally spec'd 35W TDP. I'm hoping for the latter, as that gives a possibility to current latpops (C90s, 5920g, IFL90) being upgraded with it.
-
My guess a laptop with 8800 will cost a bit more then 1399$ but still it would put to shame the 4000$ DELL machine .
-- and mind you this is AW premium prices we are talking about . -
Ok, based on the information we have on the base configuration (T7100/1GB/80GB 7.2k/8600M [so I was approximately correct - though I should have read the first post more carefully] according to the first post) and the current upgrade pricing for AW notebooks, the upgrade to an 8800M GTX should come out to between $450 and $500. Pretty heavily priced, but I want to say that if performance is important, its certainly worth it.
Also, I'm kind of inclined to say that the 8800GTX TDP did not come under 35W and AW has infact put an MXM Type III slot into the M15x. I'm not sure how they would have gotten the TDP below 35w, unless they really heavily cut it down. Though, there was something a while back about the 8800M being 22W TDP....I thought that was the 8800M GS though? -
96 SP? That sucks,i thought at least 112..
-
The M15x started at 1399$ with the T7100 (1.8 GHz), 1 GB, 80 GB 7200, 8600M GS, 15.4’’ WXGA+ (1440×900)...
The m17x started at 2199$ with the T7300 (2 GHz), 1 GB, 80 GB, 8600M GT SLI, 17’’ WXGA+ (1440×900)...
See the browser history is a good thing at the end... -

So here's a question: If Alienware's M15x can have 8600GT 8700GT or 8800GTX, is there any future for the supposed 8600GS in the XPS M1530? Seems like no-one will buy it...? Certainly not the hardcore gamers.
-
Well, there are other things such as weight/dimensions/battery life... guess, we will find out soon...
Anyway, there is a market for everything under the sun... right? -
And if there isn't, the marketeers will quickly create that missing market
-
wow simply wow 8800 in a 15" man i so should have waited for this.. wow this sucks and sucks just so so bad.
-
I am soo excited!!! finally something to live up to my good old Mobility Radeon 9700 in a 15''
-
Metamorphical Good computer user
Hopefully the M15x is only the beginning. Is WXGA+ the highest they will offer? Surely it isn't. I would hope to see the M15x with both WSXGA+ and WUXGA as an option this time around.
-
moon angel Notebook Virtuoso NBR Reviewer
WSXGA+ possibly, that's fairly common for gaming machines, but WUXGA is just insanity for a screen that size, it must be bad for your eyes.
-
Metamorphical Good computer user
I know its fairly common for gaming machine. The previous 1550 model did not offer WSXGA+ though which I always thought was silly.
And in my experience WUXGA on a 15.4 is actually just awesome. -
I did WUXGA on a 15.4" without any problems
-
Currently i have 5920G & i like to see same model with 8800GTX(Hmmm best notebook for less money) -
WOW! 15.4" with a 8800gtx. I haven't even seen a 15'4" laptop with a 8700 much less an 8800.
-
makes me wish I waited oh well I like my 1520 at half the price although I think I'm gonna pick one of these up when I get my tax return =p
