    Umm....how is this a surprise?

The Alienware M11x is very heavy for a subnotebook, although it's very light in comparison to previous full sized Alienware notebooks. My guess is that the sheer portability of the M11x, with more hinge use, has lead to this issue. People probably open and close the lid far more often than Dell expected. Whoops. It happens. Yup, I'll bet a lot of M17x owners don't move their giant notebook very much more often than a desktop - and it doesn't hurt that it has bear trap hinges.

I want to buy one so bad but Im not budging till they fix it! Its such a nice lil peice of technolgy and they figured out a way to screw it up! seems like every laptop I get ready to buy I find a fatal flaw :(

Would it help if We just put two small peices of foam tape on the corners of the trim panel? is it when the laptop is closed completly that it puts the strain on the henges? or is it just the normal process of opening and closing that they break?

Edit: Btw I talked to a dell alien Tech yesterday and he said there is no problems with the design or the hinges lol... I knew I would not get a awnser but thought Id try anyway..

Yes, but it also *probably* helps that m17x has a full metal outer chassis and is built 5x better than m11x.... :)

Would love to see a fix, bit my guess is that Dell will redesign it and tell everyone to buy the R3.

There was supposed to be an update from Dell regarding this.

How much time is warranted to let pass before NBR does a followup on the issue?

Still no word from Dell. I guess their statement about making some sort of statement was enough to make it appear as if they're actually doing "something". We know they've known about this issue since at least June of this year.

What reasonable explanation could there possibly be for why it should take anywhere near this long to make a decision on how they plan to handle this for their customers?
