3dMark06 is very CPU limited so it will not be a good comparison for actual gaming

That's the idea, no one really buys a laptop just on one factor alone, nor does everyone gives the same weight to different features. I don't think any of the "comparisons" so far are wasteful bashing, but rather show the diversity of every one's priority in features. ;)

Hey, what can I say, it's THE form factor that counts... :D We need to start another thread if we want to talk about other features, it appears... ;)

$1000 "bonus" from doing taxes; looking at my DM3 now and thinking

The M11x is a different beast. It's thick and stout, but has a 72 shader 335M crammed in there. Curious about GPU overclocking potential, since out of the gate it is very conservatively clocked at 450mhz.

Overclocking a netbook... must be mad

Thanks for sharing that review of the AW m11x with the forum!

About the closest thing to the m11x would be the Asus ul30vt. It does share the same CULV processor, but the Asus utility will overclock it to 1.7ghz. I picked up one from Amazon for $799. The nvidia g210m isn't as powerful as the 335, but so far, this rig will run all the 3D games I have at decent fps. The 13.3" screen is a bit larger, but the unit does weigh less than the AW.

No sales tax which did save me about $80.

There is a 13 inch Asus with i3 and a 330, I would wonder how that compares.

Which Asus is that, and what is the price? I am pretty sure the cpu would be marginally better, but the gpu would be noticeable worse, as the GT330 has less pipelines vs the GT335 in the 11x last I heard.

The U30 is thicker and heavier than the ULs. It doesn't have switchable graphics nor a ULV so batter life will be much shorter.

Also everything I've read says the 310 it comes with is a rebadged 210.

Yikes, a 210 is nowhere close to what this M11x has. That's a 16 core part, versus 72.

You know this laptop seems pretty fail to me. It seems like a "rich persons" Netbook... I'd hate to slap Mass Effect 2 on it and expect to play it at "playable" framerates...

It is not a rich persons netbook, it is a small notebook with very good performance for its size.

Yeah, once you head north of ~3lbs, you rapidly head out of Netbook land.

4.5lbs is way too chunky to even sniff at Netbook ergonomics, but it is right there with its battery life and the performance is top notch in such a lightweight package with wicked battery life.

I'm sitting here looking at even a Dell Mini 10 (10.1 / 2.5lbs) next to an Acer 1410 (11.6" 3lbs) and in the realm of small packages, the difference is noticeable.

Nevermind starting at $799 price just immediately puts it out of the Netbook market.

Alienware never claimed it was a netbook, the only people who coined it a netbook are users on NBR....They knew full well this isnt netbook and never advertised it as such.
