Nice with the i7 cpu, but really wish they could have managed at least a GTX280. Also a sad loss from the slightly larger 17" brother is the 2nd hdd, always a great thing to have but even better now that you can do the SSD/HDD combo for max performance and still keep your storage.
-
Though this new m15x looks great, I am kinda disappointed they didn't keep one of the best features of the older m15x, which is the long battery life.
Oh and it does look huge though for a 15 incher, as seen in this youtube clip with both the m15x and the m17x.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8jlL5MvZ_g -
That is going to cost a pretty penny.
But didn't the old M15x already have heating issues? -
I have been using the old m15x for more than a year now, and have not experienced overheating issues. The only problem of the older version is the sub par build quality of the system.
-
Maybe it was just certain ones, but not having the 280m is disappointing, they already had the 8800GTX.

I really wish the "world's most powerful" tagline would go away for notebooks. They generally keep it in place even after some other faster machine takes its place, and some some cases... it isn't even the fastest from the start.
-
The only thing that appeals to me about the new M15x is the chassis pretty much and the screen. I'd still go for it if I had the money.
-
-
gonna sell my m17x... no
-
sager and AW will also fight again for my money
i can't accept the fact that my laptop is obsolete after 2 months!! -
Starting at 9 lbs...that kinda defeats the purpose of the notebook in my opinion.
-
the specs look awesome. but dang does that thing look bulky. agreed too. 9 lbs is not something i wanna carry around. maybe that is why they dont have the binary graphics or w/e in this one.... i dunno. looks sweet though!
-
16:9 FTL. That's all I've got to say.
-
16:9, that's fine
I don't understand how alienware thinks it's okay to make a laptop a giant 9lb behemoth and not give it a 280gtx, come on -

Lol outside of the I7, Asus has been making a notebook like this for quite some time
A bit disappointing a GT240 as a base GPU? Really? For a gaming notebook? I guess thats for those that just want enough grunt for medium settings.
Also, it would have been great to see an RGB LED display. Especially from a Dell OWNED company. maybe soon though. Overall it seems like a decent entry into the world of gaming notebooks. Just hoping it lives up its expectations. -
i must say i like it...but 9 pounds is TOO much...even 17 inchers weight that hahahahaha
16:9 was a fail, but Mobile i7 is a win. -
9 pound 15"... Sager NP8690 wins this round haha. The Sager also has a 280M standard, has dedicated CPU and GPU coooling, and looks pretty sweet.
-
16:9?!! Ugh, forget it.
-
Sager NP8690 makes this 'all powerful' release look like a joke.
The Sager has the GTX 280 standard, starts at under $1700, and only weighs 7.4 lbs.
But... the M15x has UBER SPACE ALIEN DESIGN!!! ITS LIKE, OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! -
hahahahahahaha
that made me laugh Texas...lol
Hey, what is this about the NP8690?? Any llink>> -
I just saw the Sager NP8690 on xoticpc.com today for the first time myself... was looking at the NP8662 and saw this new i7 badboy sitting there all quiet and shiny.
Here is their info page. I haven't seen any announcements yet on this site though, which is shocking.
They are pre-ordering for an October release. -

If this interested you I would definitely say get the M17X instead, atleast that one can pull its "weight" lol.

Lets just hope the battery life doesn't get disappointing
-
Expect 1-2 hours, as usual. -
-
reviews have all said 2hours on stealth, 1hour gaming.
-
it's nearly two inches thick. not impressed since it uses LED backlight as well.

I like the design, gives a robust impression. That's important for me. Not that it is a piece of junk having the GTX 280 and overheating.
But the GT 240M as base card is rather weak. However, since it is 40nm it could overclock like a beast. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
The 240 has around a 6300 3dmark from the one review i saw. This shoudnt be that hard to push over 8,000 or so.
-
>.> not sure why everyone is so surprised they put the gt 240m as the base card, the 8700m gt was the base card for the last m15x.
-
When you can get the 280m for less money, I just don't see what is compelling about this notebook. People who say the 'experience' is worth the premium, I just think its a little ridiculous. I know its all subjective, but the entire Alien theme is getting a little played out to me, and they can only come up with so many sci-fi pseudonyms for their features before it just gets uninteresting. -
I'm very disappointed. No HDMI, no 280, almost as large as the 17"...I could go on.
And to make it worse (or better for me!), I see a Sager/Clevo 15" lappy was introduced with a...280!!! -
Wow! Talking about getting beat in everyway by Sager/Clevo. Size, weight, price, performance and quality. I think we know who's the clear winner here by far.

Agreed, 9lbs and 2" thick chassis for a 15.4" inch form factor notebook is beastly.
Refresh the 17x with i7 and move along.... -
Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
240~260?? The latter's almost as twice as powerful as the first. They should have put a more capable base GPU.
-
with just about all the fixin's. and a 3 year labor warranty. -
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Just like being the best selling notebook manufacturer, once you put the claim, it doesn't take long before somebody surpasses it
-
-
You're looking at $2,449 for the Alienware similarly configured and yet it's bigger and has a lesser GPU. -
Far be it from me to be AW's defender, but that's not really a fair comparison since you're not actually comparing machines apples to apples. Besides, AW's sexy chassis and logo has to be worth something, don't you think?
-
Both notebooks are vying for the same slot. The worlds most powerful 15" laptop. The Sager wins, that's all there is to it. -
-
even though it's unofficial, the np8662 could house a qx9300 and a 280m at the same time and keep them at reasonable temps as well.
-
yea i dont get it really, they blew open the doors with the m17x and now they released 4870 DDR5s for it to distance themselves way further from the competition but with the M15x they release it with a whimper with a mediocre design and underwhelming cards. does not compute
